We're into the second week of warm weather and the nutters seem to be out in force. One guy in Dorset was rescued by the coastguard after he tried to sail to Ireland in a 6' inflatable

If we get anything like a repeat of the summer of 1976, Darwin's theory should take care of a few oxygen thieves. Keep your eyes peeled for an increase in aphids becuase they will be followed closely by a plague of ladybirds. In 1976 construction of the Humber Bridge was halted after it got ladybirded off. Yup, hairy-arsed navvies, steel erectors and crane drivers downed tools after harassment from our spotty friends

Remember that ladybird infestation very well.
The outdoor pool in Withernsea had a blanket of them over the water and the promenade was covered in them.
Memories. Was a warm summer that one. Was only a lad.

Idiots. And then they need genuinely heroic people to save them - or try to. Little sympathy wth the former, loads with the latter.

Ditto. Remember a trip to Scarborough and there were millions of the bleeders.

On topic, I agree wholeheartedly with Minty

Note to the media: The "Heatwave" isn't killing anyone. Idiots are killing themselves.

Really?

So people who suffer from respiratory problems that are exacerbated by ground-level ozone* are idiots?

But surely we can take precaution and change medication to suit and self manage ourselves.

Granted I agree some more needy peeps with carers will need more attention but in general its all common sense.

I remember that well.
In Bridlington I remember a yellow VW beetle was literally solid red with ladybirds except for a sweep of yellow across the bonnet where someone had swept them off to take a photograph.
You couldn't get away from the little beggars in Brid but, out at Flamborough, the only sign of them was slicks of them coming in on the waves.

For me, thirty-degree heat is not enjoyable, I don't find it "glorious", I don't think it's lovely or enjoyable, to me it is quite simply a hostile environment.
I like sun well enough, just not these high temperatures ... I like "normal" British weather, especially the cool, breezy, slight damp of upland areas.
Mr Grumpy? ... I guess so :D

Dally and his ilk will be up in arms to find that the British ladybird has taken a hammering the last few years due to the invasive nature of the Asian harlequin species.
Immigrunt ladybirds?

Been a fantastic week in the Shires of Yorkshire East.
Been sprawled out in the back garden furniture, tanning, with periodic wanders into the lounge to update on Ashes, Open and Le Tour, followed by the fridge for a cold beer.

Not easy.

I don't mind the temperatures – what makes it more difficult for me, personally, is the humidity.
