Both Monday RL papers report that the Dons have signed Hessle RU centre Andy Townend. The 28 year old has previously played league with West Hull and is seen as a prop or second row forward in the 13-man game.

Doncaster RLFC are pleased to announce the signing of former Hessle Rugby Union centre Andy Townend.
28 year-old Townend had previously trained with the Dons but was unable to sign forms at the time due to his work commitments. He had played league for Cottingham Tigers and represented Hull FC's academy before switching codes with Hessle.
Head coach Tony Miller said: "I'm delighted to have Andy on board with us. He's a big, strong runner with good defence and can play either prop or second row.
"His versatility further strengthens our squad for the new season and he will provide welcome competition in the forward department."
Townend commented: "I'm thrilled Doncaster have given me an opportunity to get back into rugby league.
"I feel I've got a point to prove and I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in and stake my claim for a regular place in the pack." |

I realise your question is rhetorical but I'll answer anyway. Maybe it is something we could do ... I don't know the full extent of what we can offer. />
In respect of SWS, possibly the key was 'putting a deal together' ... again I don't know what they can offer as a package, nor do I know where he will be living once he returns from France. />

I can't answer for the Dons' management but I would imagine putting a deal together by a team like South Wales to attract a player like Jamie Ronney would involve them working in some "off the field" capacity too; possibly similar to the role Andreas Bauer had when he played for us. />
Other issues, as mentioned earlier, are where a player prefers to locate to. For guys at this level I would imagine being near friends and family is important. />
Who is going to fill the Dons' No 7 jersey is giving us all worries at the moment. It'd be great to see someone with some experience and know how filling the spot. We lacked it last season and we don't want to be in the same boat this time around. />
Hopefully it'll be a name we know, but I'm sure Tony Miller will do the best he can with the budget he's got. />
Let's hope for some good news soon ... |

*Rooney was born in Featherstone, so I would imagine Doncaster would be nearer. Unless all his mates and family have decamped to Wales. />
