So I've just read this weeks Dentists Diary (great read as always Wilf) and the subject of marquee players came up. The suggestion being that we don't have enough stars in the team that can make things happen, instead having a team made up mostly of hard working squad players.



What's everyone else thoughts on this? I'm half and half on this. On the one hand I agree with Wilf that we perhaps lack those stars that could help us push on to being one of the big boys but on the other hand I am very impressed with what I feel is our most rounded, depth filled, squad for many a year and not sure we should sacrifice that.

Definitely need a couple of top class players. A centre for a start, and most people would say a 7. Personally I'd like to see us give miller a real go at it.

think wilf is spot on regarding the need for star players to transform us from also rans to a top team, but sadly cant see where they would come from!!?

Lineham crooks and shaul can all make things happen. Miller has potential for me. Westy is becoming an Sean o loughlin or sinfield type player. Houghton and Aaron often influence or change games. We're not that short on game changers to be fair. Another class centre or half wouldn't go amiss though

I doubt it. Thomas Leuluai is at best a supportive halfback that helps the main playmaker. Great defensive halfback, or attacking hooker. As much as I admire him as a player, it would be like signing another Heremaia. Not what we need at all, unless Heremaia or Houghton are going - and then I'd like to see Cunningham given a shot.

Think Wigan offered him a very generous new extended contract but turned it down b'cos he wanted to be back in NZ with family...

Depends if a good 6 ,7, or a centre are available.



Personally, I rate Dean Collis at Wakey as a replacement for Yeaman /Arundle.



We do lack a HB, who has good game management.

We all have a wish list but for the moment we might have to be content in making our own Marquee players. They've got to come from somewhere so why not our own catchment area? We are more likely to produce a top scrum-half* than bring one in.



*With a fully functioning body that is. Anyone can buy a bag of broken biscuits.

We currently have 4 halfbacks at the club 22 or under, all of which have played rep junior rugby. If one of those doesn't turn out to be the answer to our problem we'll have to be really unlucky.

Would love a top class centre to replace Yeamo, Collis is decent and i'm not sure we'd get better from the NRL in terms of being an established player.

Think we'll need a 6 in the medium term to replace Horne until the likes of HTW and Dean are ready. Hopefully that'll be Rankin, but i'm not sure.

Thomas leuluai would do very nicely !!! For a few years now I feel we are only a great no 7 away from being a top 3/4 club . At full strength we've got a front row as good as anyone's in the league imo of course but were missing that spark to get over line !!!

Heard it off a pal who's pretty good like 70/80% of the time. Figured it was in the wrong percentage though. That was a while ago. A pal who's related to a hull player said a lot of talk of it in the lounge after the game.

So 2 different people(who don't know each other) I've heard it from now, weeks apart!

Nope. Just my pal who's brother is 1of our players. He just heard it being bandied about a lot in the players bar after the game
