Extra cash for Briscoe had been spent on Berrigan`s signing.

| Shaun was a great player for us and we certainly missed him when he left, however he has been out of form for a long time now so I would not be too keen on a return.
As has been said, at least we saw his best years. In 2004 he scored 25 tries in 32 games, including 22 in SL.

Partly sums up my recollection of events. At the end of the day players have agents to act in their best interests. Shaun didn't want to leave FC but wanted a 2 year deal unfortunately for him when he decided to accept the one year on offer it was too late as Motu's deal had been signed. Was gutted at the time he was a great player for us, Rovers got one good season out of him and he's been average since.

| By all accounts Hull have (or did have) a wage structure, which rewards such things as international honours.
The year of Shaun Briscoe's contract negotiations, he was having a very good season, Hull offered him a new deal, but one not what our internationals where receiving.
He turned it down and asked if he could renegotiate later in the season, on the assumption he would make an international appearance. Unfortunately for him, he got injured and lost any chance of international honours.
Later that same season, he went back to Hull and asked for the same deal he was offered earlier, Hull said they couldn't offer him that as they had now tied up cap on other players.
Rovers saw their opporunity and offered a deal he couldn't really refuse.
Shaun Briscoe was an excellent player for us and I was personally very sorry to see him leave, but could understand, from both our's and his point of view, why he left.
I bear him no grudges, but as many have said, I do think we have better options now and think it would be a step backwards in our team's development.

Agreed, he was good, he went, but we don't need him back. A good guy, like someone said he was nothing but complimentary about his time at Hull and I was sorry to see him go. He played his part but we have moved on.

| Not the player he was, and not the full back of modern day rugby league. His skill set is pretty limited. We are better served now with Cockayne at full back (and imo that says it all).

If he had have stayed with us, IMO, he would have been an international. He played great first season for rovers, but appears to have lost his way. Don't think he shat on us by the way, but don't think I would want him back now.

Quote I won't confirm or deny any rumours regarding our recruitment for Super League because there are so many out there at the moment,Briscoe has been rumoured to be attracting interest from Super League-bound Widnes Vikings.
However, the Mail understands neither KR or Briscoe's agent have been approached by the Vikings.
Paul Cullen, director of rugby at the Lancashire club, also played down the growing rumours and speculation.
"I won't confirm or deny any rumours regarding our recruitment for Super League because there are so many out there at the moment," he told the Mail.
"I can understand the link and the question is a legitimate one. I know Shaun well, but it would be wrong of me to make any comment.
"I guess that having said we tried to sign Darren Lockyer we have opened the window for all players to be linked to us."'"

Excellent assessment.Playing good or bad,he is always 100% committed, but think we had the best out of him whilst at Hull.

| Quote Kosh="Kosh"Why do people still want to find someone to blame for Briscoe leaving the club? It was just one of those things that sometimes happen during contract negotiations - no fault of either party. And to suggest that he did us wrong or was screwed over by the club/coach is just unnecessary drama.
As for taking him back - no thanks. Not the player he used to be and offers nothing that Whiting doesn't.'"
Spot on Kosh. He thought he was worth more than we were prepared to pay, partly due to an impending GB call up. He left and we utilised Motu.
As for now, he looks past his best to me and has lost that yard of pace that took him through gaps and made him such a good support player. It's a no from me.

If anyone thinks that he would be a good addition to our squad now, they haven't seen how far backwards he's gone !

| I rated Briscoe when he was with us, would have preferred he stayed. However, as others have said, we probably had his best years and they appear to be behind him now. There are a couple of British fullbacks worth looking at in Melling and Grix IMO, and I'm a fan of Owen if Castleford would part with him (but I don't think they will), but if we can't get one of those we'd be better off using a quota spot for fullback (not Minichiello though).

| not sure how true this is but was told that when Hull offered him the inital contract Shaun wanted too sign, it was his agent who stated he would get a better deal elsewhere and asked if he could look around and see what offers he could get, Hull allowed this but put a deadline on the contract they had offered.
Now from what I'm told Shaun didn't know about the deadline as his agent didn't tell him about it and when shaun had had enough and went back to the club the deadline had elasped and Hull had quite rightly and needing too get the squad sorted reallocated the money elsewhere. so obviously no deal could be made and Shaun ended up going too rovers on a lower deal than Hull had offered.
So in my eyes the person at fault was Briscoes agent David Howes...

According to the Dentist Diary at the time he was told by his agent to wait for his international call up in the Mid season international because that would give him a better bargaining position with HUll Fc to get more money, he took that advice and the rest you put is right!
