one in the eye for these backward looking clubs who have turned their back on youth and reserve grade teams.we must be the only major sport who dont have an official reserve grade,no wonder the aussies are streets ahead and the game is dying over here.look at wigan some great youngers have come through there youth system and played in a teams till they were ready.now they are reduced to signing average past it players like sammut.

Lets be clear though - it only happened because we didn't have a 1st team game that weekend.



What would've been interesting is if we'd played a 1st team match on the Thursday and had a reserve match on the Fri/Sat/Sun, then according to the RFL rules, both those maches would count towards a suspension!

Sends the message out that he hasn't been good enough and needs to improve as currently being outplayed by all the other forwards including Ellis.



I'd also start Paea, playing better starting than off the bench. I'd have Taylor on the bench imagine him and Ellis coming on after 20 mins.

Masi is playing well and Paea had his best game of the season at Huddersfield so very unlikely they wont be playing.

In any case even with the addition of Taylor we are still missing a frontline prop and having to rely on Ellis to fill in.

It will be Lane or Thompson that misses out

Wouldnt surprise me to see Paea and Masi start and have Taylor and Ellis come off the bench giving us some real impact.

On sl show,Scott said that gaz had a deal to cover while he was out - so I figure that to be 3 games of which Friday is the last. Bonus that Scottie now clear to play.



So I suggest he has signed a short term contract at reasonable rates which has been smart & fair all round.



Moving forward u have to say that you would want gaz available to play rest of season, but impact on salary cap might hurt us ?

Rather than Ellis playing week in week out it would make sense to wrap him in cotton wool and just bring him out when we need him. Either because of big players being out again, or for important games where his leadership could make all the difference. He can train with the team and play the odd reserves match to keep his hand in. I don't know what the plan in, but that would be my approach.

I can't see us paying an assistant coach much more than £30-40k a year so he won't have that much impact on the SC

I have a good ball park figure on what our coaching staff earn from a very reliable source. Ellis is in his first coaching job. How much do you think RL coaching staff earn?

I am generally sceptical when salaries are discussed. How reliable is this source? Just how would they know the details of a confidential employment contract unless it was public knowledge?



I have no idea what Ellis earns. Guessing is pure speculation.

Only 40K? I'd say that's a decent wage for doing a job you love , and not sure how many hours a working week is for these guys, but I reckon it's a lot less than the average joe , making 40k salary very attractive

Came from a former SL coach who told me broadly what coaching staff are earning at several clubs.

Thats the point though, they don't do average Joe jobs.



I am assuming here (as mentioned, I don't know what salary he was or is on), but being an NRL player where the cap is bigger, then being persuaded to come to Hull when he did, it a fair estimate to think he will have been on 6 figure salaries for a while. Given that he was in demand (from a couple of West Yorks clubs) to go to them when he finished playing, he would have been in a decent position to demand a good salary if Hull really wanted him.
