Hi all you great RL supporters...St Catherine's Church, Donny Rd Food Bank have empty shelves and are appealing for tinned food, packets of pasta n rice or tea and coffee. They are open from 8am to 8.15 pm today so it would be great if we could all drop at least 1 item off there on our way to the game and fill their shelves up for them and show what a great family us RL fans are. Thank you

Can anyone go in and get free food or are there any restrictions. Are you allowed to take free food if for example you smoke or say pay for Sky TV, or are a drug user or a heavy drinker. Great idea but just wondered if there were any restrictions to prevent abuse from free loaders.

Went over this dinner time with some food. The lady said they had been very busy with people needing food. Sure most of us would have a couple of tins to spare for this very good causec

Yeah there are restrictions, can't remember what exactly but you definitely have to prove you need to use a food bank.

Yes - I think they install CCTV in your house and make you wear a bodycam for a week, so they can do a lifestyle choices audit before they issue you a food parcel...

Ok that's good , I will call in with a donation . I have been tricked in the past making financial donations to then discover that less than 10 % actually goes where it is needed

Belly - think you need a referral from the social to use it. Do people use it could better manage there money? very probably but I give them a bag full of stuff tonight, maybe it'll go to someone who genuinely is in their - I hope so.

If it is a Trussell Trust foodbank ( the majority are) then food vouchers are given to clients by 'professionals' such as doctors, social workers, teachers etc, people who have identified the need. These vouchers are then exchanged at the foodbank for non perishable food which has been donated by individuals and businesses. 'Clients' can, on some occasions just turn up, but this is not the usual case. As well as food, clients are given advice and a friendly listening ear - and a cup of tea. hth

It's a great local service in one of the poorest areas of the city - I'd encourage Wakey fans to remember them and drop some stuff in if you're having a clear out or feeling flush. Not only does it help feed those who struggle to feed themselves/families - it also acts as a place where people needing other help can go and get advice and information/referrals to appropriate agencies etc.

So everyone who uses food banks are shirkers, drunks, smokers etc.

Not saying that at all, I am just wanting clarification that shirkers , drunks etc are not abusing the system, got nothing to do with politics Jinjer. There has been, is and always will be people who need support from society in General and I am delighted to assist in anyway I can. Surely its fair to ask a simple question to receive clarification on what systems are in place to ensure that assistance goes to the correct people.

First of all can I say thank you to anyone who dropped off any food yesterday. I know some took some during the day and others on their way to the game. St Catherine's have tweeted their gratitude and also raised over £60 in donations. Had a long chat with them and they are not part of the Tassell Trust and require ID and proof of need from users . belly as in all walks of life there are those who will try beat the system from large companies and billionaires avoiding tax to people on benefits working and people with trades doing jobs on the side and not declaring income. I would be more upset by someone owing thousands in tax than someone picking up £10 of food they should not have. I would urge all to watch the film I,Daniel Blake to see why food banks exist and why the haves should support them.

Regarding St Catherine's Inwould hope collection days could do-incide with match days more often so fans can get into the habit of dropping off food items.
