| Quote bellycouldtackle="bellycouldtackle"We do need cover in the centres. George has gone ( signed for Hudds many months ago, funny how he was not able to play in the last games ), I also understand that the youth coaches at Huddersfield are saying that Murphy is in their sights. They have not dropped their interest and we all know that Ken always gets his man.'"
If that is the case so be it, but he see's his contract out end of story for me - even if that's with a sick note. We simply can't keep letting players go to any team let alone Hudds, it's now a matter of principle for me and I'm generally a pragmatic kind of person.

| Anything but Lee at Half Back..
Seems a bit strange to me a coach signing a player for one club whilst managing another did Agar have this lad in his sights as a future FC player or wasnt he good enough for them.
Where Hull after him but not really bothered if he didnt go to them and Gentle has his own targets which doesn't include Collis..
Seems a weird situation for me.

| Quote Tommy Duckfingers="Tommy Duckfingers"Ellis, Wilkes, Fox all really good signings, Lauititi too you could add as well. Cockayne (whilst there is clearly a negative aspect) and James (if they do arrive) would be reasonable signings - as would Dowes if he came - in my opinion of course.
For me it appears we are bringing someone in potentially for the sake of it simply becuase they are available and from Oz. Overseas signings should be restricted to a minimum in my opinion and kept for pivotal playes. Can't see much justification for signing a mediocre import in a non key position that we appear to have enough cover at.
Stefan Marsh
Jordan Tansey
Karl Pryce
Matty Blythe
All the above rumoured to have been available for next year, all would have been a potentially reasonable options for the 3/4 instead of an import that struggles to get a gig in the NRL.'"
Can't go with that I'm afraid, we are threadbare in the backs.I agree it's not the most important position but if we are to challenge it needs filling. I really don't get how a 25 year old 100+ NRL player cannot be considered a good signing. Forget the position as I assume Agar has his plans for other positions, look at the player - screams quality (relative to ourselves).
I think we assume that because he's an Aussie he is the Marquee signing when he may well not be - assuming there is one. It's a bit of half empty v half full.
I really don't see Agar as a sign any old player kind of Coach I really don't.

| Considering he has over 100+ nrl apps and played origin in 2007. Not a bad record so far.
If Tongia signs I would suspect that would complete our backs.
Just one solid good half and a prop or two and I can be positive. We look to have alot more depth and experience than last year already!

Tend to agree with this. Why are people assuming just because he isn't playing regular NRL that he is a poor import? There are loads of success stories in super league of players that aren't playing regular top grade down under making a massive impact over here.
Also Lauitiiti is an excellent signing not just possibly a good one. He will bring us the x factor if he stays fit. I'm of the mind that if we are winning games then i'm not too bothered who plays for us. Ideally yes we would all love English young players to be at the forefront but lets get real it's not going to happen. Looking forward to going away to places like Wigan, Saints thinking we have a small chance of winning instead of hoping we keep it under 30 pts difference. Still remember the dodgy video ref try at the JJB when Solomona stuck his hand out and put it down after being called "held". One of the great super league wakey moments IMO!

He's in talks with us but nothing set in stone, we are one of a few options for the lad.

5 games from 25 this year doesnt "scream quality" to me I am afraid, relative or not.
Dont know about Agar, that remains to be seen.
I understand we need to beef up the numbers, and with seasoned players to an extent too - but its not as if there aren't other options available as mentioned - plus those lurking at Fev, Fax & Leigh etc . I appreciate we aren't able to bring in SOO players, thats not the point. There seems to be perfectly good options available domestically and those should be the priority, rather than diipping into the NRL reserve grade for yet another quick fix.
If he was a player such as Tongia I could understand it, the potential upside is they are the next Henry Paul or Rangi Chase (non descript down under but extremely good players in SL) - but at 25 theres not likely to be much improvement left in him.
Pains me to say it but we should be taking a leaf out of Cas's book and looking closer to home for our players rather than running off down under at any given chance. We can't moan that we dont attract the best junior talent when their path is blocked by run of the mill ozzies and kiwis.
We really should use the quote as a limit rather than a target and make sure imports are limited to those who are "special" or at least have the potential to be so.

Anyone can talk, but if he does join us that is your big signing right there. He is a player who IMO is a little too small and a little to erratic for the NRL but perfect for SL.

| You can't help but laugh at our supporters.
On one hand they're banging down the door demanding the club sign Tongia who has to date played 0 NRL games, and are scared to death at the very mention of another club taking him. But on the other hand a player who has played 100+ NRL games and has been selected for City Origin is deemed average or blocking the path for our youngsters?! The youth promotion concept has gone into overdrive!! You can't expect a team of kids to play 27 games without experienced players around them or we will see another year like this. At 100+ NRL games I would class Collis as experienced, and at 8 years younger than Tony Martin, who last time around was lets be honest average, without seeing him play for us, how can it be a bad thing?
Re Isaac John, hasn't he just signed another year with NZ Warriors?
