| There is always animosity from both sides but deep down everyone surely realises in a small town like ours, with very little going for it, that both clubs are mutually beneficial. It’s easy to forget the rugby situation isn’t exactly clear cut either. I’ve yet to see in any sport a new owner take 4 weeks to basically shut down a club in such a way after the governing body gives them the ok to take over.

| Put the boot on the other foot and what do you think they would be saying? Exactly, so no need for sympathy towards them. It is what it is. Move on.

There's no doubt that a few obsessive loudmouths who've taken it on themselves to speak for the whole of the Latics fanbase would be delighted if this was us going under. But in truth, we really don't want to see them founder. I can't stand football - I find no entertainment value in it at all, and I certainly have no inclination to support the Latics just because they happen to represent the town of my birth (those few gobby fans have put paid to any chance of that).
But surely it's far better if the stadium costs are shared equally between two reasonably successful clubs? Wouldn't it be a massive strain on us if we had to shoulder the bulk of it?

It’s not shared equally now, we just pay as per our tenancy agreement.

So what about those of us with a foot in both camps? Both sides are full of selfish and pathetic individuals who crave negativity and almost feed off it, hoping for disaster of the other rather more than success of their own. It’s what’s always embarrassed me about being from this town.

| Quote Pie_Eyter="Pie_Eyter"Thats how i see it Hatty. It was only a matter of time before football went pop. That much money on wages and merchandise based on nothing but guesswork and hope. I agree with you, no interest in football never have to be honest but as you say the numbers involved are ridiculous and at some point it has to reach the end, could it be bar the top flight this is a sign of things to come for the lower leagues?

| If there is one thing that Whelan is very good at is getting out when he can see things starting to go downhill and selling the business for a profit.
Whelan's Supermarkets sold
JJB Sport Sold
Wigan Athletic and DW Stadium Sold
Not to mention other of his purchases like Pooles Pies, Wrightington Country Club, Charnock Richard Golf Club/Figaro's Restaurant etc, etc
All added to Uncle Dave's Pension Fund in Barbados!
Don't panic, our Lisa will come to the rescue!

Then buys them back cheap, he has sold latics down the river with who he sold it to. And will now buy it back and become the saviour. And be seen as the hero.

| He could have sold to ISIS, he'd still be a hero to most fans for how he saved the club, transformed them and put them on the map.

| The statement by Whelan only proves that he could see the way the club was heading long before the virus and it is the reason why he sold the Latic's and the Stadium.
Like I have said before, Whelan has always has known the right time to sell any of his businesses.
Is his statue on the list of statues to be toppled by the idiots?

I don’t think he can be seen any other way by Latics fans to be honest. Equally can you blame him for getting out? It’s shrewd business move and ultimately that’s what he is. Personally I just can’t see him re buying the club, it’s common knowledge a sports team is typically a loser financially, it doesn’t make business sense to get back involved and it’d be purely sentimental.
It’s all very very dodgy. Took over a week ago and ownership confirmed on 30/06 and go into administration the next day? The EFL have a lot to answer for here. It smacks of incompetence bordering corruption for me.
As I’ve said before I’m no Latics lover or supporter but the way this has gone down is utterly deplorable.
