| Quote Pemps="Pemps"If we loaned a player out to Salford and they were willing to take all of his wage on board then that would free up his entire salary. If they were only willing to pay half then we would pay the other half and only half would be freed up.'"
But if this player was no longer classed as a Wigan player, then surely none of his wage - even if we were paying half of it - would count on our cap?
Or is that a really stupid question?

| i wish you guys would stop using "former" and "latter".
i get em mixed up and ive no idea what some of you are saying
i think its to free up space for gleeson.
i dont think we left enough room under the cap to make a major signing, so summats had to give.
on the positive side..........it doesnt matter how much we go over the cap this year, as a points deduction would mean nothing at this stage.
in fact it might generate more interest if we were on minus x points and trying to get into the plus.........like some footy teams who start off on -15.

I think they are still classed as Wigan players though. I think.
The issue I see arising is if we loan players out and then a couple of our backs are injured for 3/4 weeks, what do we do then? By calling our loan players back they'll go back on our cap.

| Quote Wigan/Leeds Andy="Wigan/Leeds Andy"Gleeson's contract couldn't have been registered with the RFL if we didn't have cap space the moment it was agreed by the RFL. Given this it looks like Goulding to Salford gives us some space. Don't know about the Mossop deal as the timing was close to Gleeson being confirmed.'"
This is the view i have. Also with the rumours that Pryce has been loaned to Leigh this gives me hope that we are looking to bring someone in.

That can't happen any more. If a signing is set to take us over the cap, the RFL will refuse to let us register the player.
There'll be no more 'one season later' points deductions.

Winning bonus being brought back in? Could well be.

do they refuse, or let the club register the player then penalise them for it?
or as they only have to do a monthly return, Wigan have until the end of April to get their cap in order before Gleeson starts to count.

I think they are unworkable with the salary cap, a major downside of it

I'm sure they refuse. As the cap is 'live' the club should have current figures, and thus the RFL will be able to assess if a signing will take a club over.
I think we would have had the space to bring Gleeson in, with the help of Mathers wage being freed up.
IMO we now have the cap space freed up by Mossop and Goulding which could result in mid-season signing or improved deals/extensions for current players

Us at Saints have a strong rumour about Tom Armstrongs contract being "enhanced" once he plays 5 first team games and this is a reason we have not seen him since the 4th game etc.. not many believe it and i myself am sceptical (not even sure if he has made 4 or 5 etc..)
But if something similar was to exist you'd have to think due to Ainscough and Tomkins continued presence in the team might have led to their deals being improved to the point of needing more room.

| Mossop
Goulding
Pryce
and perhaps- Flanny to go out on loan? Would be good business, free up cap for another player and give some players week in week out first team action.
