With the recent criticism of David Howell, I thought I'd run a poll of the Worst overseas signings ever made by the QuinsRL/Broncos.

Only going back to 1997 though, as I can't comment on players before that time!



I'm sure I've forgotten a fair few names

Who was that player that never actually played a first grade game for us and was seen smoking and drinking at a match?

Mark "I'm gonna bash some Poms" Carroll seemed to suffer his fair share of attention from opposition players and got knocked on his backside a few times, perhaps he thought he was joining London Australians.

I think it's only fair in these polls for the players to have had at least a season to prove themselves.

He came to us with a decent rep as a promising young from Oz and when ever I saw him I thought he never lived up to the hype

He'd played a handful of games for Wests and been extremely average. Never played Origin. There was no hype whatsoever around him. He did very well for us, when he was fit.

In my opinion what? In your opinion, their was "hype" around his signing, and he had a "big rep"?





As you like looking at statistics, it would appear at O'Halloran scored a magnificant SIX tries in 3 season in the NRL, featuring 28 times. Yep, big reputation there.



He was excellent for us in his debut season, one of our standout players. Lee Greenwood scored 17 tries often featuring on O'Halloran's wing (IIRC) - only Moran scored more (1icon_cool.gif, and no other player scored more than O'Halloran (icon_cool.gif. Not bad for a player that is "utter tripe", eh?

He was a very good defensive centre....................Moany Bollock$ Lister would probably disagree!!

If there has been a worse one than Frank Napoli then I'm pleased to say I have managed to blank them from my memory.

I can never remember who are the "official" overseas players (i.e. expected to be stand out performers) and who are here via loopholes/dodgy passports (i.e. cheap and making up the numbers).



O'Halloran was good enough after a slow start as I recall, but seemed to become more injury prone as he became more established in our team. Armour was used sparingly during our relatively successful 2005 season. Weisner came from the lower divisions and did OK as a squad player. Robinson did well when fit enough and our results tended to be better when he was in the team. I wouldn't say any of those came with a big reputation and none was hopeless. I don't remember any of the others on the poll list, they must have been before my time.

Damien Chapman was definitely the worst.

I remember a hammering we took at Knowsley road where he was scared to touch the ball or any Saints players!

I'd agree that Frankie was the worst. Still, he did score the winning try against Fax at Charlton having been bloody awful all afternoon.

My main memory of that game was John Timu putting their bloke into the stand to secure the victory. A truer reflection of Frank would be the day Wakefield & Bobby Goulding stole victory from us in the last few minutes by working out that Frank couldn't catch the ball and kicking it high to him as often as possible, gaining at least two tries that way. The match winning try came with 23 other players looking at the ball in Bobby's hand and then at Frank. Bobby stuck it down the other wing where some winger or other was paying attention, quality by Bobby but soul destroying to watch. To make it worse back then I sat next to Giovanni who had spent most of the match telling me we needed to sign more Italians.

Probably doesn't count because his agent claimed that we'd never actually signed him before Widnes somehow acquired his services while he was already participating in our pre-season training in Abu Dhabi or similar, but if we had signed him, Troy Wozniak would be a prime contender.



Didn't last a season at Widnes, leaving under mysterious circumstances including some allegations of "a bit of a dust up" with their coach.
