| My concern with refs is that they seem to focus so much on fitness that they forget (or don't have ) Man management skills.
When i'm watching refs they seem obsessed with getting into the right position(back 10) rather than just managing the game. Never do you see a ref stood by the ruck when the games getting messy as they are drilled to be back 10. The way they speak to players at times is childish.
When you have Ganson setting the tone for the group its not a great start

| Quote Exiled down south="Exiled down south"When you say refs to be consistent is that a collective consistency or for the individual to be consistent??
Both
Im not sure refs are the weakest part of the game, Marketing, crowds, The RFL, In fighting.......... all outdo Refs'"
I was speaking about match days. The RFL have not got a brain cell between them especially after today and moving the Salford game giving only 5 days notice. It is the same for the Salford fans who are traveling to London as when the RFL moved the day of the Catalan game they will loose money for hotel booking and public transport.

| Interested to see the comment that the refs don’t get picked up on mistakes! When they get dropped to lower league games! Which happens! It costs em in the pocket

If this is the case most of them would be officiating in a lower league each week.

| So all refs are rubbish, how would you suggest you change that situation?
Extra training? Full time Refs are already full time!
Consistency! Humans will make errors! You can never change that!
Let’s have have 3 4 5 Refs on the pitch, let’s stop play after every tackle and review it!
We have vid ref, folk don’t like that it apparently spoils the game.
So be interesting to hear suggestions.
Of course salford complained about the Ref, they lost the game on a last play penalty, obviously that was the Ref cheating not the player!

| It strikes me that the consensus among the rugby community is that the referees, especially this new intake, are not up to the job.
The RFL need to get their heads out of the sand, realize that there is a problem and get it sorted.

| On the topics of referees (which seems to be where this has gone), a Good referee (refereeing performance) should warrant no mention of the man i the middle is dispatches. There were plenty of strange call both for and against the broncos over the years, but only one sticks in my memory....July 5th, 2003, Griffin Park v Hull FC last play of the match......it's still the #1 reason that I bought into the whole "bias against London" conspiracy as it was the most blatant piece of inept refereeing I have ever seen.

And there lies your problem Northy you see life in a very simplistic way.
What about getting someone at the head of the referees organisation who is strategic and can look at referring holistically. What it is the game wants(not what you think what the game wants..engagement), what skills referees need, application of the rule book, how Refs can be assisted (2 refs/TJ/cameras..), soft skills required, where do we recruit new referees, training and development programmes, finance......
The above is not Ganson.

I remember it well it involved Denis Moran, I think he had just flown back from Australia. If he had scored we would have won. Was Ganson the Ref that day?

I remember this game well...I couldnt be at Griffin Pafk as I was on a family holiday....but it was shown on Sky at the bar I was frequenting... After many San Miguels and in a pleasant state of Menorcan merriment even I could see we had been done up like the proverbial kipper..
