| It seems that we are the only club in SL who aren't announcing any signings. We are supposed to have signed Joel Moon, according to the player himself, yet it still hasn't been announced. Looks like O'Hara has signed for Hull KR instead, don't know if this is a good or bad thing for us tbh. I hope MP manages to get the players in he wants to and SS gets the job done. Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid and impatient but I am a bit worried about the lack of movement as of yet.

| Anybody worried ?
Finally after nearly ten years of speculation Craig Gower is SL bound to play for . London ( insert new name here ) RL.
Wakey will presumably announce the Mega signing of Keith Senior ( 35yrs, post Op knee reconstruction ) today .
Otherwise , most signings have just been over the feeding frenzy on out of contract non quota Aussie Crusaders.
the refreshing thing so far is the only names linked with us so far are , younger , better potential players.
Widnes / Wakey are squad building and taking various cast offs from mid table SL opposition etc.
non so far has got me on this forum typing ' look what we missed ? '
It's a good thing I think

| Fair points indeed and I hope you're right! Think we should've been in for the likes of Lloyd White though. How about a big offer for Ben Flower, even though he is either Saints or Huddersfield bound whichever forum you believe!! Even the old rumour mill on here has gone quiet. I love a good "he is coming" rumour!

| I think the simple answer to to questions is, when we make some. Let's not forget the club may have had an eye on certain players but since MP has arrived with his own ideas / thoughts the plan may have changed, the club are damned if they do and damned if they don't, if they come out and say we've lined up player X and then player X decides to sign elsewhere for more money the club (and mainly Steve Simms) gets slagged off, if we don't say anything people start to worry. I have every confidence in MP and his philosophy and I'm sure he'll sign the right players at the right price and announce them at the correct time.
I see Wakey have announced another Aussie signing this morning, Steve Southern from Newcastle.

| Why the assumption we need to sign new players. Yes, there's room for improvement in the quality of the squad but there's far more room for development with the existing staff.

| The signings will probably come. I think Parish has got a good grip on what he wants and wont rush into anything. I think it's a fairly decent sign that, unlike some clubs, we have not rushed for cheap cast-offs from the current worst side in SL in the Crusaders. Undoubtedly there is a few talented individuals there but nothing I would shout about, and certainly none that have made me think that Salford is losing out by not signing.

| I would have guessed 'no new signings', is about MP getting the players he feels will improve our side. Replacing Cashmere is probably his number one priority. O'Hara would have done short term, but if he's taken a three contract at KR, as rumoured, the club has probably done well by staying clear. Given what happened with Bailey, where we were extremely lucky he did the right thing there, it would be good to see the club stay away from giving players of this age three year contracts.
After a Cashmere's replacement, let's hope we bring in a second prop, a centre and hopefully another second row. If we can't find another centre I'd settle for retaining Mark Henry, his defence seems to have improved recently and if nothing else he's solid.
Who knows, maybe the best way forward is to get more out of the current squad. With Cashmere and Ratchford replaced.

| How much leeway do we have in the matter of salaries: our last set of signings were not cheap and most are still with us.

| maybe we have missed out on our targets and have nothingt o announce?
maybe we arent rushing into things?
Maybe we are just quietly getting on with business and will announce a 'job lot' soon?
who knows. - hopefully we wont be dissappointed
in terms of money....Parish keeps saying we dont have much in the press....which is always a worry, as it may mean we miss out on targets....and of course we REALLY need a good first year of vitories if new saidum is to work. (for me I would have put last years investment into the team this year but hey ho...hindsight is great)
We should have baileys money...cashmeres money...henrys money and ratchfords money......so i would expect 4 'decent' signings....

| Very different market between this year and last year...
Wakefield have probably been spending less than they could afford because they thought they were going down and wouldnt have been offering more than a one year contract last year. So now they are very active with probably a bit in the kitt - tehy will also know they have teh space in their structure as they were already planning to go down.
Widnes now know they are coming up and are active and will be bringing in almost a whole new squad I suspect.
Crusaders players have flooded the market so to speak.
Difficult to judge but because Wakefield and Widnes are in a pro-active position to sign people they are doing so in a market where there is lots of choice (Crusaders + all the off contract players) and are probably picking up some players at good value.
Last year we were amongst the most pro-active in a market when there were fewer overall movements. I think we'll have little scope to be so active again because we will already have people on contracts etc.

| Parish - "We have got a few other players in mind but obviously money is a factor.”
from MEN article .
officially we spent big last season in order for this season to go well . it didn't but part of the issue was the injuries / Fitness to some key signings the well publicised disruption caused by the coaching reorganisation .
It's fairly evident we are not going onto the new ground spending to the limit of the salary cap . in fact I believe we will operate on the smallest salary next year in SL
Widnes, already stated they will be ' able to ' if required , Wakey as Mmp said are suddenly flush as , a) they were spending least as they were odds on the go out of SL , b) in anticipation of this pretty much their whole squad was on 1 yr deals or loanees from other clubs, so they've got a clean slate to rebuild.
so Matt's remitt is to turn the sow's ear into a silk purse with the existing players. a team performance that punches above it's weight .
any new signings have to deliver and be young & good enough to count for the full season , we cannot afford to sign 50% duffers & crocks next season.

This is SO dangerous for the 1st year at stadium....if we have a team which isnt winning matches....people WILL NOT come...we only get one chance to move to a new staidum and ride the positivity wave of that move...please dont let us balls it up by having a team getting beat every week!!!

| How were we going to pay Phil Bailey? Ray Cashmere is going, how is the salary he was being paid being re-deployed? Stefan Ratchford was reportedly made a good offer, has that money disappeared? What is happening with Mark Henry? If he is not being retained then presumably his salary is freed up or is it the case that we are shrinking our salary budget?
Without Cashmere and looking at the strengthening that others are doing our pack looks like a wooden spoon pack.

| " Stefan Ratchford was reportedly made a good offer, has that money disappeared?" To focus on this:
the directors who can pay for the signings are making a decision that it is worth dipping into their reserves to keep such a good player. Once he is not there as a purchase, that money disappears for other - non Salford - uses.
Basic business procedure by share holders.
MR is right to an extent -that I fear - but I began supporting way back in the 60's so "false dawns" are my make up.

Hopefully our new coach will bring about an improvement in some of our underpeformers such as Sidlow.
That's as positive as it gets until we replace Cashmere with someone who'll takeover his workload.
