Been told this morning that Nathan Brown has lined up Brett Hodgson for next year in a player/coach role to work alongside Makinson and develop him into our full back...a 1 year playing contract for Hodgson followed by a further 2 years on coaching staff with Brown. Not sure how true it is, but if it is then looks like Wello will be going.



Has anybody else heard this?

Seems like we have an elsatic quota to fit in the two new props, back rowers, Finch, Lyon and now Hodgson. Apart from that, it sounds like a good idea.

I was thinking that he wouldn't fit under our quota but guy that told me is involved with Huddersfield academy set up and says its a 100% done deal, just not sure if its a wind up which is why I asked if anybody had heard it too?

No thanks from me. Hodgson was a fantastic fullback and I'd take him in a coaching capacity, but he's making errors frequently for Warrington now and has had a few real shockers this season.



Makinson doesn't need anyone to hold his hand, Wellens or otherwise. Just give him the shirt, in fact I'd give it him now so he can build up some confidence in the role with less expectation than there will be next season.

someone told me Brett left Huddersfield because NB was trying it on with Mrs Hodgson, dont know how true it is like.

Coaching role yes as a player .. no thanks. Way too old and past his best, we'd be replacing 1 past it fullback with another.

Seriously though, do you really want to replace a full back who is an excellent player but whose pace has sadly deserted him with another talented player who is also at the wrong end of his career? Unless you're bringing him as cover and to do some coaching this doesn't make sense. Are Saints trying to recreate the stupid errors Wigan made in the early-mid noughties? You don't need to bring in overseas players at the wrong end of their careers, either get your home grown players in the side or if your youth policy is failing recruit Warrington-style from smaller clubs.

Did this rumour come from the same guy who told us Keiron was signing for the pies all those years ago? Given that Brown has dropped Eden into the full back role without a Hodgson there to babysit him, I can't see how this would be something he would now consider.

Hodgson is no better than Wellens !!
