Hi
Just reading the Sydney Morning Herald and Russell Crowes Sydney Rabbits are trying to sign Sonny Bill Williams after the Union world cup as his contract with union expires.
Obviously being a Saints fan Id love seeing him in a red vee, but salary cap restriction and no doubt his wage demands would make it nee on impossible. However when we signed Scully and Newey in the 90s I remeber David Howes raised finances by approaching local business's for cash to help broker the deal. Do you think this could happen in 2011 by Saints?

Salary cap in SL wouldn't allow the signing to happen - there aren't the same ex-cap sponsorship opportunities over in England that could make him a very wealthy man in Oz.

| Even if we did have the capital for marque signings like Scully and Newlove the salary cap would no doubt block us, it's one of the few downsides to the cap imo (and the bosman ruling) that we dont get to see many if any of this type of transfer in RL anymore. I'm sure the club owners for the most part would disagree though as it makes the finances alot easier

He has been immense in union and would still be one of the very, very best players in RL.
I can see him coming back to league after the RUWC (which he's bound to play for the All Blacks in) and whoever he signs for will have a heck of a player.

He is, at best, third choice centre for the All Blacks. It is probable, but by no means certain that he will make the World Cup squad.

Let's not start discussing RU ......... this isn't the Other Sports section ......... but even for you that is an outrageously biased statement
SBW is a squad member of the All Blacks, he is a long way from being first choice centre, Nonu and Smith are light years ahead of him.
As to whether he'll comeback to RL ......... I don't know. He seems incapable of staying in one sport or one location ........ RL to RU, to France, then back to NZ ....... who knows what he might try next.

| I thought SBW was legally bound (by the NRL bigwids) to not enable him to return to the NRL until 2013 as part of his punishment? Has that being changed then?
No SL side could afford him anyway given he took a massive pay drop to play in the NZRU league for £375,000 a year (He turned down AU$2M/yr from Tolouse!)
