| Quote Andy Gilder="Andy Gilder"Absolutely correct - consistency and confidence are important at the moment.
Pick your strongest 17.'"
What confidence can you get out of playing a mediocre side? We would hammer them with an half decent side, let alone full. If anybody takes any meaning out of that result, they would be seriously kidding themselves.
Much better to take advantage for a rest, and give some youngsters the chance to hold their hands up and stake a claim.
I have no time for coaches and players who moan about fixture overload, and then play full sides in uneven contests like this.

By that reasoning, what kind of claim does it allow a team of youngsters to stake?
They'll be either looking good or bad against a bunch of part-timers. It achieves no more than fielding a full strength (injuries permitting) side.

It achieves a lot more. It shows they can handle pressure situations, i.e. knock out rugby. Playing first teamers shows nothing more than we already know.
I would hate to see our full team rack up 80 points then believe everything is back on track now, for the week after. Because it wouldn't be. A huge score is a given with first teamers.
Playing fringe players whould still give a fair few tries, but will leave those players with an hunger for wanting more of the same.

But according to you it's not a pressure situation, it's a formality even with a half decent side?
So what does it achieve? Is the level of opposition that much higher than they would experience in reserve grade for example?

| Some good points and counter points here.
IMO I would sit in the middle and play a mixed side.
Which would probably lend itself to a better game of rugby.
I wouldn't be suprised if the likes of JP do play that you may see them all start on the bench and just see how the game pans out.

| In his blog Diskin talks about being rested so with McShane now being at Hull does that give a chance for young Hood to understudy Buderus?

Or maybe it gives a chance for Bluey to finally play Buderus for a full 80 mins

At minimum Neil Holland will feature as he did against haven, and possibly charnley but I doubt Walker will as wigan want him available for later rounds.

| Only resting Diskin?
The other players missing are I think all injured.
Has Mrs Leuluai produced her baby yet?

| So maybe just a few fringe players getting a game then. It'd be nice to see how Coady goes in the centre given that's why he was signed.
Personally I don't disagree with picking a reasonably strong side. If we were in crash hot form I'd rest a few more but we aren't. It possibly also suggests that Leeds are taking the CC very seriously this year and don't want to risk losing at all.

| The Rhinos site states that both Diskin & Ablett are rested.
I hope that is true & that the latter is available for next week vs the Wolves.

Hopefully. Could have a very strong side for Warrington if Ali and Ablett are both back.
