Just been watching some footage on Youtube of a CC tie against Hull KR from 1987. Made me a a little sad because it reminded me of what a fantastic RL venue Thrum Hall was, and what a great matchday atmosphere the place generate.

I shop occasionally at the ASDA that now stands where the ground use to be, and even though I'm not a Fax supporter it still makes me tingle when I think back.

What a shame it is that so many of the old traditional grounds have now been demolished and replaced by crummy, souless concrete shells that all look the same.

Doubt you will find many that will disagree with those comments, particularly on here.



I have seen the same footage and you are right, it sends shivers down the spine.



Ikea stadiums are ten a penny now and whilst facilities and safety are hugely improved you can't buy soul.



Maybe I am biased but Thrum Hall was extra special. It just had something you could never recreate. I always thought Central Park was similar and Wilderspool to an extent

Good post ....Thrum Hall had so much....you could feel the history seeping out of the place when you walked in but unfortunately we have to move with the times....the Shay is certainly growing on me but its the history and the memories that cant be replaced from the old grounds.

Thrum Hall was unique-The Slope , The Scratchin Shed and the nearness to the players. It also had a lot of history. It was let go way too easily for me. However sadly its the past and we are now down at the Shay. Now we are here lets make it unique and special for us in a different way. The East Stand will add alot of charactor and atmosphere thats been lacking. It would be good to see crowds of 8 or 9000 like I remember at Thrum Hall. Some games were more like when we played Wigan in the mid 80s in the great days. Those days can come back

We always criticise grounds like these two and knowsley road but it would be nothing like the same if these two were to get a modern boring stadium. The grounds back then had character and charm, and because they were more compact and closer to the action the atmosphere is so much better.

The thing I miss most about Thrum Hall are the Friday night reserve games watching " the tryers" doing their best to make an impression in the hope of a reserve spot on the sunday. that and the fact that gates of 1000+ were commonplace

Loved going to Thrum Hall when Fax were the dominant team Wombat,Eadie and The Wild Man my team never seem to come away with a win.The ground was unique,atmospheric and full of character with a good vocal backing by the fans.
