Absolutely. A very good analogy.

| Quote christopher="christopher"But there are a lot of 'working class' people that held the same view about Liverpool as a city, and also the same about the Liverpool fans at hillsborough.'"
Perhaps (in part at least) because they have been fed a series of lies by by a supposedly working-class paper?
I'd point out that Murdoch can claim until the cows come home that he hates 'elitism' and has set out to destroy that, but Murdoch loves being part of the Establishment. You only need to see his recent behaviour re the Harry pictures to see that he behaves like a spoilt brat having a tantrum when anyone comes close to criticising him.
Why do working-class people read a paper that is ultimately against their own interests?
You might as well also ask why any woman ever reads the [iDaily Mail[/i, a paper that is hellbent on exploiting women's biggest fears about self-image and encouraging a sense of self loathing.

"People are poor because they are ing animals. Look at them; just look at them."
Is the author implicitly suggesting that people are ing animals because they are poor? Isn't that in effect the political narrative that has dragged this society into the gutter?
Personally, I believe that people can be poor and decent and should always strive to be the latter with no excuses made for those who choose not to be.

Do you know what, I think I agree with him. The thing about Hillsborough as far as I can see is that it could have been any football club this happened to, from all reports the game was in a right state back then and there had been several other close shaves that could have easily turned out to be the same tragedy as Hillsborough. I think the Police and the authorities messed up obviously in a terrible way and they disgustingly tried to cover their actions with the easy scapegoat of drunken yobish hooligans, which the game was littered with at that time. Personally I don't think it has anything to do with anti Scouse or anti Liverpudlian.

The reputation of football fans generally was very low at the time, many people were prepared to believe the worst. But I always found The Sun's accusations too much of a stretch to believe. I really didnt think that fans would act that way to fans of their own club.
I dont think think any anti Liverpool sentiments were fueled by a dislike of scousers as such. But Hillsborough happened just 4 years after Hysel and I do think that tainted peoples reactions. There seemed to be quite a widespead feeling, which I shared, that Liverpool fans had refused to accept responsibility for Hysel, that it was everyone else's fault but theirs. When Hillsborough happened many people were reluctant to accept that Liverpool fans might be largely blameless. It was perceived as Hysel Mark II. The cover up was easier to achieve because of what happened 4 year earlier.

I have stored this phrase away in what's left of my memory.
I shall be giving it an airing from time to time as it sums up most of what Boris spouts.
