From Steve Mascord on RugbyLeagueHub patreon this morning....
LONDON Broncos chief executive Jason Loubser has told a fan forum he expects the endangered club to climb from 24th to “14th or 15th” in IMG rankings when they are delivered to clubs today (Tuesday).
Around 45 fans of the capital’s only remaining professional rugby league club attended an information night at Cherry Red Records Stadium at which they were told about efforts to save the Broncos.
The club - relegated from Super League this year - has previously said it needs some £350,000 by Christmas to compete in the Championship next year.
“While we don’t like the rankings, potential investors do because it tells them what’s possible,” Loubser said in answer to one fan query.
“We believe our ranking will be 14th or 15th but in saying that we don’t know what other clubs have done. We don’t know that for sure.
“We are about two and a half points off grade A … we could be back in Super League in two years.”
A jump of 10 places would be down to a better average performance over the applicable period and improved commercial and engagement metrics, the CEO predicted.
Several fans made reference to the club being aloof in the past and shutting out supporters, with one saying: “People have walked away in the past because of what has been said to them by people at the club.”
Head of performance and incumbent men’s coach Mike Eccles said: “We know that we have to do better in that area.
“This is a new start, a reset.”
One fan offered the club the use of a four-bedroom apartment to host players and a van
Eccles said the club planned to spend less on players than ever before in 2026 but vowed to bring back the academy if financial targets were met.
When Loubser was asked for specifics about who might be interested in investing, he said there had been “a few emails, a few phone conversations, a couple of guys in Australia.
“A few have said they’re waiting to hear the gradings.”

Thanks Lefty. Not a lot of useful information there.

I believe that David Hughes like a lot of people who have power. Disliked criticism, fans forums invite it, so in his book fans forums probably were best avoided..

I really do struggle to get my head around the catchment area nonsense. It impacts on nobody else even if you just totted up the populations of Merton, Richmond, Hounslow & Ealing where we have had past "home" grounds. The refusal to accept this by the RFL/IMG does seem to be obstructive on their part to our grading score for whatever reason.

The Catchment score is defined as the population of the Local Authority District where the club’s stadium is located divided by the total number of Tier 1 and Tier 2 clubs in the same area.
Ealing alone would have gained the maximum 1.5 points for catchment since population is above 260k. Richmond and Merton have relatively small populations (for London Boroughs) both falling within the 130k-260k bucket that awards 1 point.
Even if points were awarded on a sliding scale (rather than in rather crude buckets), we might get a more sensible score.
Just be thankful we aren't playing in the City of London.

I bow to your superior knowledge Buzz, but it's still bonkers. Mind you if we played at the HAC regularly, we might not be short of money.

In fairness to IMG it is a bit tricky. Ideally we like to claim the whole of London and indeed some of the outlying counties. We could probably make a decent fist of providing ST holder evidence that fans come from all over. I suspect LB Merton doesn’t figure in the top 5 of hives of Broncos support but I’m not sure where does. I suspect they feel that the whole of London is too big a weighting anomaly for such a modestly supported team so they have picked the areas we are based in and are targeting with player/staff interaction. I think we could make a case for Merton and Richmond on the basis we train at the latter and perhaps if we stepped up our community engagement there with a nod from them we could capture that catchment area but let’s be honest we are likely to be doing much, much less so, basically we’re stuffed.

I doubt think they really think about how the criteria affects one place of another. The criteria has to be written so it applies anywhere in the country. Not sure what could be used other than local authority district.
