To avoid this being a really thin thread posting about players we let go should also be included.
With that in mind, Leyland Jnr joins Meadows thru the out door. But fear not he is staying to the end of the season so we can get him nice and fit for KR. To be fair he hasnt pulled up trees this season but then again I recall Trinity swooped for Adebiyi on the back of 3 and a half minutes game time a few seasons back so maybe that is the way it works.

With Bill happy to take the money then bugger off without a thought, it does rather highlight Broncos inability to offer contracts covering the SL season & possible relegation reductions. Football clubs seem to manage it.

Having said that, the RFL needs to implement compensation for acadamy trained players scooped up by other clubs. Of course as we know, IMG don't consider developing young players counts for much.

Was always on the cards that Bill would leave for a SL team. Who knows it might get him into the England squad if he does well.
Still gutted though.

"Bill will remain with the club until the end of the season where he will continue his rehab."
Seems like a win-win for us doesn't it! Awesome!
Oh, hold on... I think I'm mistaking the word "win" for "lose" in that sentence.

I’d have been tempted to have advised the club not to have said that sentence out loud. On the one hand it points to us, mainly by misfortune, basically having been mugged in the sense of paying for a player we can’t use and not being able to have tied him down to a deal that would have lessened that eventuality on the other hand it comes across as chippy, a bit ‘of course we’ll meet our obligations- he’s the sxxt one.’

We’ve got him on a one year - he’s got injured, no club just tells a player to do one it is what it is. He really stepped up last year even though he came on from the bench a lot he looked like a really promising player. He wants to take the opportunity of moving to Hull. We should just have said it was a shame he picked up a knock we were hoping for good things but it happens. Wish him well and get off the pot. In a game where there are no transfer fees and where being in London is an actual handicap this type of thing will continue to happen. If we don’t like it we need to get smarter with our contracts. Personally I’d prefer we put a bit of energy into signing some for next year.

Bill Leyland is a great player. I think he would have stood out in SL this year and perhaps gone to a bigger club than KR.

My thoughts are the same with Bill, it's all assumption as we don't know but I am with most in thinking he would have stood out thus season in the squad we have and inevitably he would have got interest from the bigger clubs! I think this was always going to happen we don't pay enough or offer the bigger chances in the game currently

Hey NB, welcome back to the gloom & doom, trust you are well. As I said previously, our leadership are clearly not bright enough to organise a multi year contract reflecting the division they are playing in. Interestingly a tweet from the club suggests that Bill was offered a 2 year contract but refused to sign it in favour of a 1 year contract. Given that Peters is quoted as saying they looked at signing him last year, Bill's decision to go may well have been made some time ago.

Compensation should definitely be paid to clubs who developed players for the game.

I think the reason he stayed for the one was he had one more year of his London-ish based uni to complete. In other words he did what was best for him. We as fans may get irritated by this type of thing as is our right but the other side of the coin is Horsman, years at the club let go without a word. The fact is when you get players on low/lowish value one year contracts they have a right to play the system as best they can just like anyone else. The thing I find slightly odd is that as a club we don’t seem to get that and get affronted and make it obvious in our public statements we feel that way. It’s tinpot and doesn’t actually achieve anything.

Broncos have never figured out how to hold onto our best talent. Current strategy seems to be to sign players up again if they don't get retained at a Northern club.
