I go to the match to watch the rugby, not to get aled up and not give a toss about anyone else. And as for the 'industrial language' chanting, I for one think it paints the club & the town in a very sad light.....but maybe I've gone too sensitive in my old age?

Which is really sad. My recollection was that RL crowds had an element of self policing which was something to be proud of. We shifted to the side in the second half for a bit more room there wasn't and to get higher up the stand for shade.....my excuse to the lads anyway.

I agree that it "paints the club and town in a very sad light". The 'consolation' is that we are not alone in RL. The ultimate downside is that we all look small time and we then wonder why we are down the pecking order for sports coverage and investment.

its a bit of a swings and roundabouts thing, at home, the south east corner/back row seems to be bereft of the modern day "chav goths" (they wear black padded jackets in all weathers) that have been plaguing the back row for the last 2/3 seasons.

however, big games will bring them out.

The stewards might as well not be there.

When the fool lit the flare, instead of dealing with him, one of the stewards just scurried-off to find the police officers to pass the buck to them.

All disgraceful, and flares at games are pathetic, and it's usually older guys who have never grown up.
Why would it even enter your mind to even take one in the first place, so sad.

Uncle Rico wrote:This kind of behaviour should absolutely be called out. I've no idea what was seen on TV as I haven't watched the game back but unfortunately it's not an isolated incident.

I took my two grandsons to their first Wire game and was hoping that a) the team would turn up and win and that b) we'd have the place rocking behind the sticks, all in the cause of attracting new fans to the game.

Now I'm all for a bit of character building 'right of passage' growing up stuff but I think it's gone beyond that. I'm 50/50 on the flares but don't think they should be allowed so on balance not in favour. But the bottles and beer throwing and constant industrial language seems to be becoming normalised. Parents quite happy effing and jeffing in front of their kids.

BTW growing up in the 60's/70's I'm not particularly PC but would hope that I had the sensibility to understand there's a time and a place.

The boys (7 and 12) loved it and can't wait to go again and on reflection perhaps I was being over sensitive yesterday, maybe we were living up to our reputation but I looked around at our crowd and thought we are a bit rough house.

To be fair they aren't flares, they are just smoke bombs which are fairly harmless. I'm not condoning them but flares burn hot and are very different to a smoke bomb.

Still pathetic and pointless either way.

We do seem to attract a particularly scummy chavvy element. It's built up the more tasteless chants that have now crept in, I'm no boy scout but sitting down in the south stand it was all a bit embarrassing to witness. All the chants of "you're sh it" is just juvenile and comes across badly on TV. Sadly big games, great weather and mid afternoon kick offs just adds to the mickeyed up yobs who don't even watch the match.

Also why did they close the bars five minutes into the second half? At least in the south they did. Mickey poor from the vape station.
