During these depressing times for us. The chat is nauseating. So I want to start a few threads to try and get some positivity back by talking about some good times for us.

This thread is called who wins?

So this one is who wins in a match from our two most successful teams of the Super league era?

The 05/06 team vs the 16/17 team. Reasons why and some of your memories from great performances of those times?

Despite the playoff loss to Wakey, rugby we played in 2004 was some of the best ive seen in my time as a Hull fan

Briscoe
Best
Barnett
Yeamen
Raynor
Horne
Cooke
Dowes
Swain
Carvell
Mcmenemy
McNicholas (every team has a weak spot)
Smith
King
Whiting
Lupton
Chester

I reckon that team gives the 2015/16 team a run for it's money

Certainly a good team to watch. But I think our Cup winning team would edge it.

I remember the first time we qualified for the super league play-offs, may have been 01 or 02. I think we finshed third and went away to Wigan and gave them a game at their place in the play off. Lost a close one. Jason Smith was on it that night and then got an elbow injury. Had he have been able to stay on, we might have done them. And then who knows where that team could have gone?

Good character In that team. Tony Grimaldi, Luke Felch, David Maiden. Lee Jackson was back playing for us from the bench. Jason Smith as the Crown jewel.

Gaz Ellis visibly lifted everyone on the pitch who was playing alongside him. The most influencial player I've seen play for us. So for me, 16/17 edges it. Gaz rightfully in the hall of fame whilst still being around the club.

I did think when watching some games last weekend how poor the quality of the better teams in the comp is now compared to 15-20 years ago. No real stars in the game now, no characters, no top quality imports

Those Wembley wins were highlights in our History but as a yound kid at Wembley in 1985 watching Hull and Wigan its something ill never forget with two teams full of quality and pace.
If Shaun Edwards hadnt wrapped up Lee Crooks over the line and got underneath him to stop him grounding the ball early in the game we would have won that game.

Wasn't Kearny in the 04 team?

Or did we sign him end of that season.

We had a great squad in 2004 and were second for most of the season but injuries took their toll and we dropped to third so missed having two chances to get to the Grand Final. For the Wakefield game we were missing Jason Smith, Richie Barnett (Snr), Rich Horne and Kingy. Cooke played but wasn't fit.

The Sterling/Kenny final. Two legends at the top of their game. I was obviously disappointed that we lost but proud we contributed to the greatest final of all time. The Featherstone final in '83 was a different matter! Still haven't got over that!
