Thought this deserved a thread of it’s own. The new coach thread is the place for debating whether or not Burgess is the right coach (and some are rightly shocked by the direction the club has taken) but I thought that this documentary may shed a bit more light on why we chose Big Sam.

It’s a great watch, but more importantly serves as a starting point for discussing what approach he might take with the mess we are in. I think he’ll be popular with the players and will maybe empathise more with their expectations. I also think he’ll be bold enough to make the unpopular decisions within the camp when it comes to form and favourites. He’s grown up triumphing over adversity, and has carried this through into his career. Born leader and born winner. Hopefully this will rub off on and inspire our developing players.

I’m not too interested in his past misdemeanours. He’s far from the first sportsperson or celebrity to have skeletons in his closet. So I’m going to sit back and watch with interest what sort of effect he has on the club. We’ve tried every other way.

Totally agree. Let’s get behind our man and our team. We go again. I’m delighted with this appointment and genuinely believe we all will be in time. COTW

Enjoyed that documentary. It was quite moving in parts. What a forward he was too. As said a winner with mental resilience and drive. I wish him all the luck in the world.

Amazing to recall that Burgess was 21 when he was playing in the NRL. He had obviously not read the script that says props need to be much older to make it.

I think ,if Sam is going to be as good a coach as we hope, that his biggest problem will be unpicking the mess the club is in & actually sourcing suitable replacements.

Like to think he could get players that would not necessarily come to the club.

Well many of the players some on here want to get rid of are on multi-year contracts - Kasiano, Dudson, Ratchford to name but 3.
I'm sure Sam B could get some new blood in, but not in the way DP appeared to be given carte blanche.
It'll be interesting to see how Sam B approaches these things but he's already had some experience of this type of thing if you've listened to the High Performace interview.
With a 2 year contract though he's not got THAT much time to get the team he would ideally like, so he has to get the best out if the players he has.
