But I’m not sure you can blame a coach for the dropped balls or poor PTB’s. I once recall Malcolm Reilly responding to a heckling fan at Thrum Hall to the effect “what you want me to do, run on and catch the *****ng ball for them?!”. A couple of the missed PTB’s were at a crucial time in the 2nd half (Tangata and Walmsley) but I thought they could have gone the either way with defenders interfering to stop us getting a quick play – but defenders get the benefit now. As for not getting the best out of his players, if anyone is suggesting there was a lack of effort, then they were watching the wrong game.

I was not questioning the effort but this is a results based game and they have overall this season not been good enough. It is all well and good playing fancy rugby but you need to be picking up the points at the same time. I thought yesterdays performance was a step backwards from the featherstone one. I take your point that the coach is not on the pitch dropping the ball but this as been a issue for some time with our style of play and you cant keep going on saying it as nothing to do with the coach the book ultimately as to stop with him.

I think some players just aren’t good enough to carry out his instructions.

I think you could well be right about the players he as to find a way to get results first and foremost and then put the icing on the cake. Me personally i don't really have a ideology of how we should play i just want us to win first and foremost and style can come later.

Yesterday we came up against a full time team who also had loan players and a DR player who was man of the match. Looking back and taking that into account it wasn't a bad display. We've got to find a way to cut out the schoolboy errors though. It's as if other teams just play it simple against us and wait to capitalise on on our mistakes. A win on Sunday at Workington is really a must. Up The Fax! :thumb:

I agree however I think the birth of the expansive rugby started at the rebrand, I remember listening to Lawrence turner who was saying we want to play expansive rugby because we’re in the entertainment industry . Tbh if we trace it all back to the meeting they had at the shay where they discussed what needed to change. I think they identified poor marketing, poor relationships with our local talent etc and obviously poor attendance, the rebrand wasn’t just about a panther it was about getting young blood in and playing entertaining rugby , I suspect Grix a protégé of tony smith style rugby was part of that plan , it might even be the case that he’s been directed to coach that way. Overall it’s a very tricky puzzle to solve with a minimal budget .

For several years under Marshall supporters complained at the boring style of play - we had a fair degree of success often because we usually had a very competitive budget which allowed us to bring in some quality players compared to the majority of the division. With the team assembled now and the more open style of attacking rugby being encouraged there may well be a few hiccups, I also feel though it's the only way to have a chance against the top 2 teams in particular. And while I obviously want Fax to win as many as possible, I feel this team will only get better as they continue to gel, and I'm prepared to live with the odd error when the upside is turning up on Sunday for some excitement rather 5 drives and a kick!

With you again I.F.

To all the nay-sayers on here, Bongser thinks that you wouldn't have troubled your, less than industrious, scoreboard operator at all last night had you not played the way you did. You could have knocked on Leigh's front door all night without it being answered, but Grix had spotted that the side gates were ajar - something which Lammy needs to address sooner rather than later.

On last night's showing, the positive results will come and you'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. :thumb:

Well there’s been plenty of doom and gloom on here, to be honest I thought we weren’t far off and the errors really did cost us. I’ll watch it back today and see if what looked contentious tries for Leigh were or weren’t, I’m guessing they were OK as they’ve not been mentioned but didn’t look it from behind the posts. Hopefully if we play like we did and cut the mistakes Worky will be the start of a winning tun.

I couldn`t make it to watch due to a pre-booked holiday. Watched it on tv this morning. Leigh did exactly what I expected from a full time team made up of a set of big athletes. We competed pretty well and has been said most weeks simple errors cost us. I think back to the Calland/Hall era. We played exciting rugby then and I hope that we continue to do so this season. The style Grix has us playing is far more entertaining than latterly played and most teams in The Championship will not be able to cope with it especially now Woody is back. We have the best set of half backs for a while who can play and defend. Perhaps a big forward is missing, no doubt Grix intended that to be the unfortunate Brad Knowles.
I am still confident that we will put some wins under the belt and enjoy the rugby while we do.

Just in that regard, Tangata has been done for incorrect play the balls multiple times this season to which Grix has acknowledged so to me that is a coaching issue. I don't see any lack of effort though like you mention, I just think its a case of been outclassed.
