Morning all

Wigan's accounts filed - good to see operating losses down from £1.1m to £0.7m. £200k in from player sales meant reduced cash support of £568k needed to prop things up.

Numbers heading in the right direction - hopefully this continues and the Latics uncertainty doesn't layer in cost for the rugby club.

I’m not sure if I’ve got this wrong but they’re accounts up to Nov’19, I’d be interested to see what they are for this year but still those figures are pretty good all things considered

Yes they are Nov'19. This year I suspect Wigan might be hit slightly less than many others who own/operate their stadiums. Very interesting that the acocunts say they expect the year to Nov'20 to show further improvement relative to Nov'19 - that would be a cracking effort by the club all things considered.

This years (2020) accounts won't be published until late 2021 as is the norm.

Looking at the 2019 accounts the rental costs for the stadium fell by around £50K to £242K and there us still a figure
of £2.23 million not accounted for as yet. I presume that is the value of the Orrell training ground which is no longer used.

In 2018, we played 15 games (league and cup) at the DW and paid £294,648 in stadium rental costs

In 2019, we played 16 games (league and cup) at the DW and paid £241,818 in stadium rental costs.

Average league attendance was down 276 per game in 2019.

Bearing in mind there was an extra game, I would have expected increased rental costs in 2019, unless we had been overcharged in 2018.

We actually played 17, including the WCC v Sydney Roosters which attracted over 21K fans.

However it's still a big financial loss and goes to show how much we rely on IL. Things have to change throughout Rugby League, the game can't stand losing money forever.

I was under the impression that the WCC was a RFL event, and all income & expenditure relating to ticket sales and venue costs would be paid and received by the RFL.

At least that always seems to be the excuse trotted out when folk complain about the ticket price!

I wasn't sure to be honest but Ian Lenagan mentions it in the 2nd paragraph in his Review of Business on the page 2 of the published accounts.

An improvement would be incredible given this year and no crowds. Having said that the RFL has been pumping loaned Gvt money into clubs and we’re looking to shed some players from the pay roll so that’s where the optimism may come from.

Plus the majority have been furloughed for 3 months, and the playing staff took a pay cut. It wouldn't surprise me if the club took advantage of the rules to furlough staff again over the next two months.
