I forgot to say it was poor to take those 2 kicks at goal early on when we had wire on the rack. IMO we could have scored both times or at least looked for repeat sets and why was sneyd kicking the ball into touch on the last tackle early on it the game instead of putting in attacking kicks? Far too negative for me

Your first post was a good one, this one better. Slow defensively, negative kicks, and stupidly taken the 2 points when in a position to apply real pressure

Very proud of our team today, without scape goats, and against a good Wire side who kept the pressure on almost continuously in the second half, we wouldn’t give up, and as fractious as we played, we could have won it. Terrible weather, couldn’t stop a great game unfolding, congratulations to the Wire, good luck in the final.

Agree, just seen this on Twitter from a Saints fan. I think it's 13 not 14, but sentiment the same and good context.

"Since the start of the 2016 season, Hull FC have played 14 challenge cup games and only lost twice.

In that run of matches they’ve only played one team outside of Super League, Featherstone.

Unreal stats. Beaten by the better team today. Some fans are proper doom and gloom."

As you say, pride in yesterday's performance, disappointment but full respect to a very good Warrington side. Another good cup campaign from us.

At no point in the game did we have Wite on the rack !
Plenty of effort yesterday, but our execution and inability to defend a high kick cost us.
This was highlighted near the end when we forced a dropout. Then , guess what ? Dropped the ball !
Our pack is a spent force , they laid no platform to work from .

Good post, effort was there, just fine margins, overall we defended well, forfar half I thought we were the better side, should have gambled from the penalty.

Earlier in the season they put 70 points on us, since the we have beaten them and run them very close, they have a marquee player and higher cap than us, we are only 2 points off them in the league.

Backs are fine and look stronger next season, pack needs freshing up with too many old and inconsistent players, the 4 additions, a hopefully fully fit Savelio and youngsters more experienced will improve us next year.

Personally think the club is moving in the right direction.

All about 2nd place now

Can't fault the effort from our players today. We gave it everything, but came up with too many errors in the poor conditions. That happens sometimes, it's rugby league. It's unpredictable. Don't like the criticism Minichiello is getting. He made an error at a crucial time; he was unlucky. Other than that, he ran his socks off at times where our go-forward lacked.

It's easy to criticise the two goal kicks at the start when looking back in hindsight. The first one was definitely the correct choice. Had he made the one before half time, we'd have gone in all square. He's scored that many crucial 2 pointers, I won't cry about missing one.

The only thing that disappointed me were the d***head "fans" behind the sticks that spat their dummies out at the end when they scored. I hope every single one of them that threw things onto the pitch is banned. People like them are the reason other clubs think we're scum and there's no place in the sport for them. Wouldn't be surprised if we copped a fine for it and quite frankly we deserve one.

Well said.

There are far too many knee jerk comments on this thread. According to some if you don’t say we were crap then you are easily pleased

To all the doom merchants out their, so you think St Helens fans slated their team and coach after we did a job on them in the 05 semi? No, quite the opposite, they applauded Hull for an outstanding display. Well, warrington did to Hull what we did to St’s 14 years ago. Pegged us back near our own line on a monotonous basis and capitalised on a couple of our errors. What’s more, they executed that virtually perfectly.

I cannot think of a single team who would be chucking the ball around for fun when within their own 20 yards line when the ball is wet and like a bar of soap, yet the grand tacticians sat behind the key boards are saying that’s what’s we should have done. Warrington did not allow us field position, simple as.

Not blaming Hick for the result, but we found it hard to make much ground as wire were offside at just about every play. Hicks gave just one offside all day (Sneyd season first successful kick) I just think he wanted to let the game flow and credit to him for that. Hull were not smart enough to encroach further themselves.

Having watched the game back there were a couple of things which didn’t go our way. Shaul being pinged for a knock on after his long break (ball clearly goes backwards) and the three occasions that Sneyd was flattened after kicks should have warranted yellow card as well as a penalty. Not sure why we went for a kick at goal just before half time. There were 90 seconds left and, as it proved it was hardly a sitter. A kick to touch, start a set 25 from their line which had enough time to see through would have been a better option.

We lost, the better team on the day won. Disappointed but it’s not the end of the world, like a crestfallen few on this thread would like to make out.
