That is about them being better run-and Happier clubs. Ours has been run badly and not playing in the WCC said we are mediocre and are happy to stay like that. From there the only way was downhill.

still they have won nothing , lls shield apart like us.

been some bad decisions made by the giants in recent years no doubt, wanted thewlis out years ago.

2013 and around then was our time and we blew it to win the grand final... two cup finals too, one we should have won.

tough times now

From when i started watching Fartown (under Murphy) we were a club on the up. We stalled when we hit Superleague for a few years, but after relegation started climbing again and very nearly hit the heights. The biggest problem , however uncomfortable, is that the town itself didn't want it. We were winning nearly every week, had realistic chances of winning things and appeared in challenge cup finals. Attendances barely grew at all. I think Mr Davey and co. realise that all they can do right now is keep the ship afloat until 'maybe' one day the town does want it. If you look at league tables in most sports, you will find that clubs are more or less ranked by attendances. Sure, there are some fluctuations, but in the longer term, having a big fan base gives you more chances to get it right. You buy bad players, you have the money to replace them etc etc. According to attendance we are where we are meant to be, i am saddened that Huddersfield doesn't want a successful Rugby League team, and would rather watch football, but that is the reality. We tried to change it, and in the timescale we have had so far, have been unsuccessful.

The 70's and 80's were bad for Huddersfield in more ways than just the rugby played on the field. We lost a generation, and that lost generation never passed on the Rugby League bug to their children. Now we are trying to rebuild from scratch a supporter base, and to be honest not doing too badly, i see a lot of younger fans and children at games and that bodes well. For the first twenty years i watched Fartown we were simply replacing the old fans who had seen the glory days of Hunter, Cooper and Devery with new ones. Now they are all gone, and we have to build a new legacy from scratch.

I always want us to be vying for trophies and winning matches, but the reality is we aren't a well enough supported club to be doing that consistently, until we are we will continue to struggle.

Snip.

I don’t agree with your post one iota. If you, entertain , if you market, if you sell if , you engage , if you have a good product you can sell anything

The Giants have failed on all of these fronts and have consistently blamed the fans or the lack of fans or the people of Huddersfield

There was a lack of ambition, lack of strategy and vision by the club and when they had a chance to build they did not seize it.

There were things they could have done two small examples they could have decided whether they were a Sunday or a Friday team earlier instead of prevaricating and pissing off lots of fans and then had a strategy based on which day it was on. They could compact the fans in the main stands to create some atmosphere.

Neither would cost much money but both would help improve attendances and the match day experience.

I get really loved off when people blame the fans that is just trying to pass the buck and basically saying .

Huddersfield is not interested so let’s just give up. With better people at the top we might not be here in such a poor position

Huddersfield Giants 2013 over achievers

Huddersfield Giants 2014 under achievers ??????????

Off the field, they are just punching their time cards mate, If they got payed for running the club on results, like most people do,( and i'm not talking about results on the field) they would have been down the road years ago, but there is zero ambition so why rock the boat,.

I am not saying the club is well run at all, and of course they could have done more, but really, everyone in the town knew of our success via look north, examiner etc, and attendances barely shifted, sorry but some of the blame is on the mindset of Huddersfield population, they only want football for the most part regardless

Some really good points made and of course just some simple things would make a difference ie Just giving fans some decent information on signings and strategy. What is bizzare though is that everything is penny pinched down there yet if you believe the press Ken was willing to throw 500 K at Widdop. what difference would that make without the clubs operations being run properly ?

Maybe, just maybe, they had no intention of signing wisdom- and it was all about showing intent to attract players.
