Having said that, fans have always complained about referees for as long as I can remember, and that's a long time.
touch judges are massively underutilised, get the impression they are instructed not to get involved in policing the offsides.
classic example Thursday which yet again highllights how feeble the officiating is and makes law change pointless unless you actually enforce it, ourscrum and Catalans were at least 5 metres offside as the ball came out.
All well and good saying 10m from centre of the scrum will encourage more attacking play but if the touchies are going to ignore players offside what is the point. The 5 metres back from the base of the scrum was fine so long as the officials enforce it.
Two refs aren't needed, what is needed are officials prepared to wave their flag and/or make the call to the ref to state X is offside.
It's exactly the same with how the police on the roads don't pull up errant motorists for various infringements from low level incidents like careless driving all the way up to and including death by dangerous (I'm not directly involved but have helped crowd fund a private prosecution because the MET police dismissed a cyclist being run over from behind by a women driver on a well lit street with cyclist having lights etc and they basically said no case to answer!!)
And people wonder why the roads are like the wild west.
RL is becoming the same, enforce the rules as we have and then players and coaches have to adapt or be penalised out the game, I think it's as simple as that.
