We won the Cup and got to a Grand Final with a "plodder" like Dowes.

just because McNamara picks a player it doesn't make them actual international standard, and yes, we won in Cardiff TEN YEARS AGO with Dowe, but he was surrounded by better players. If Washbrook is the future of the club then it's not a future filled with silverware. I do wish some FC fans would have a little more ambition at times.

The salary cap doesn't allow for a team of world beaters. The fact is that we got very good value out of Dowes, he had a great work rate and complimented our other props nicely. I'd even say some would sooner have Dowes of 2005 in their team over Bowden/Green 2015.

I would have no problem with signing Washbrook, if we were short in the backrow, but with Mini, Pritchard, Whiting, Hadley, Westy, Abdul, Thompson, Turgut and possible another couple of youngster, it just doesn't make sense.
