Those things have no relevance to British society. The IS thing does as British citizens are apparently acting murderously for IS and intent on attacking British citizens.

..... ..
I was actually comparing situations, which is that seemingly pointless killings of innocents will ultimately drive ALL public sympathy and respect against you.
By 1998 and the Omagh bombing, the IRA had lost nearly all support they had. Even their American sympathisers had their heads shaking at their tactics. It quickly led to Adams and McGuiness running to the diplomatic table as they were morally stuck in a dead end.
IS are now in a similar position. Muslims worldwide are condemning them. Even people who might normally be able to put up some sort of defence for them are struggling to find any logic in their pointless murder of hostages.
I think most people agree, if you want to fight a war, however seemingly idiotic the motivation, then fight a war... However, these tactics of cowardly posturing, in murdering innocent people who are actually there to try and do some good, do nothing but show them up for the maniacs they really are.
And so you aim towards the sky, And you'll rise high today, Fly away, Far away, Far from pain....

it had, but hey, it doesn't matter. Another guy lost his life in an horrific way (not that there's a "good" way for that to happen), am unsure what "we" can do, any intervention just emboldens them, and if we turn away we are weak.

The brutal murders of western hostages ,while obscene are of relatively small consequence when compared to the attrocities carried out against the local populations of Syria and Iraq ,it is those that should drive the civilised worlds quest to rid us of this evil

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
