It strikes me that Coyle could have danced a jig and the ref would have stopped it simply because Derry Matthews had tagged him and that was enough apparently.
If you was the ref you would have let him carry on?
Anyone who has followed Kovalev over the last 18 months in particular knew Clev was potentially in for a pounding, he wasn't ready for him IMO, and now his status as a paper champion is over he can go back to the drawing board, take stock and work on improving his flaws, he's still young he's got time.
I'm so pleased for Barker, I couldn't happen to a nicer bloke, and to get up from a body shot like that is amazing, I can't remember too many fighters get up from a body shot to come back and win, especially in a world title fight.

agree with all of that, didnt know kovalev before this but will be following him now as will many.... these russians are turning out to be the next best think with golovkin too
Golovkin might be a little offended if he heard you call him Russian... He's from Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan have produced good armature boxers for a long time, maybe we'll start seeing more of them make their mark on the pro game. FWIW I think Barker should stay clear of him and Martinez and fight either Chavez Jnr or Murray.

yes kazakhstan! oops
think barker should stay away from him too, he has a mandatory against felix sturm next.
the murray one after that would be a great fight and good money for both

Hearn is talking about getting Sturm over in December, Sturm would be a good scalp even though he's past his best. A fight against Quillian would be good too, although I reckon he hits harder than Golovkin.
