You became mentally ill after suffering a physical illness. That is not the same as 'spiritual benefit'. The very idea of inflicting that degree of trauma upon a child in order to make his father a more obedient follower is one so callous only a sociopath could find it remotely acceptable.

There have been cases of people with AIDS making a full recovery. I'm not saying God performed a modern day miracle, but it happens.

Predestination doesn't necessarily preclude you believing. That door is open until death. Laying back and leaving things to transpire is the mark of the unsaved.
