Hahaha that is brilliant! I've never had anything that bad, but on almost every game I play there will be 5 seconds or so of extreme rubber-banding, and I know that it's quite a common issue.

Another thing that really annoys me is that constant accessing of the disc that MW3 seems to require. I'm aware of my PS3 always having to read the disc during a game. I might be wrong but I don't recall this happening in previous iterations, so why this one?
An option to install to the HDD should definitely be available, but it's not.

I've stated elsewhere that this is the first time in the series that IW have put out an inferior CoD game than Treyarch's last effort. It's understandable really, given all the turmoil IW have been through lately, and losing the majority of their most influential employees had to have an effect somewhere down the line.

Everything just seems pretty stagnant.

This is an area in which games and movies are very similar. Rather than take a risk on a new IP, firms are taking the safer option and churning out sequels to popular titles ie games they know they can make a profit on.
This is nothing new, Nintendo have been doing it for several generations, but it is becoming more commonplace now that the recession has kicked in.
That being said, we do get some original ideas popping up every once in a while. The Spike Video Game Awards are taking place this Saturday, and over the past few years it has become a bit of a tradition to unveil some new titles during the ceremony. This year shouldn't be any different, Sony have at least one new exclusive to reveal and I think the Gears of War creator is going to be showing off his new project too.
If you want to watch them live, there will probably be a stream of them on the net somewhere.

Black Ops and to an even greater extent MW3 on the other hand have been completely ruined by the lag compensation in these games.

I have good internet with a failry decent ping however in MW3 I am constantly being shot round corners and killed instantly whilst my bullets don't even register. IW keep releasing patches which supposedly deal with lag compensation yet with every update it just feels even worse.

They really weren't. Every single COD has numerous problems with hit detection. MW2 probably being one of the worst out of the four I've played (not played MW3, but heard bad things).

I can't understand the difference between the two types of server. I'll always use this as my example, but I played the game Killzone 2 when it first came out a few years back. The online on that game didn't have a single fault, there was no difference between offline or online play with that game, no lag, no waiting around to join a lobby (you could actually select the lobby you wanted to join, judged on region and so on), no host disconnecting and if you wanted to join a lobby just starting, you could, if you wanted to create one, you could, you weren't just randomly sent into a lobby where somebody has a AC130 and you don't get a chance. Even though Killzone 2 was never really a huge hit, the quality of online play set a bar that I haven't seen reached by COD or Fifa, which are probably the two biggest games out there right now.

Ranking up online, exploring this massive world with your friends. It's a fantastic game, but nobody seems intent on trying to explore this massive gap. Can it be done properly? Considering DC Universe Online came out, it shows it can be done, but I do think there's room for a game like WoW or something similar.

Skyrim online would have been brilliant, but i can't say that too loudly because i spend most of my time bitching that there are hardly any games which are solely single player and don't rely on a crappy Multiplayer to boost playing hours

I'm not sure about hit detection problems, however. without knowing the specifics, the servers on COD games have been pretty ordinary at best, lag, drop-outs, host-switching. Always seems to happen when you're playing well!

Crap graphics, and average game play, but a totally class story and a game you can't turn off. Apprently it was meant to come out on the PS2. It would have been hailed a classic if it did.

Even the new IP's are ripped off from another developer (Zombie games especially).

I think Heavy Rain was a good example, LA Noire brought some fresh ideas to the table, and (if it ever gets released) The Last Guardian should be good.

Problem is this generation only has about 2/3 good years left in it, I will always remember this generation of consoles for COD copycats, shoot, shoot, shoot, with a small smattering of really high quality games.

The next genereation machines will be out 2013 apprently. 10xs more powerful than the current generation so I'm told.

Anyone seen the Max Payne 3 trailer? Can't wait for that. Also Metal Gear: Rising, Nija Gaiden 3, Syndicate and GTA 5 coming out next year should be a good year.

I don't particularly want new machines at the moment, quite happy with the graphics that we have.

A lot of those are sequels though, I think that Developers should try and make games more emotional and involving (characters and storyline) rather than use the stereotypical grunting soldiers in FPS's. It seems these types of games come from Japan more so than the West.

The Max Payne trailer does look good but I loved the first Max Payne game for its gritty atmosphere and environment along with an involving storyline, hopefully MP3 will live up to it's predecessors.
