I for one was out was impressed with our grit and endeavour to not collapse against Leeds and was impressed with our comeback. However i look at some Mag's tactics and feel there are a few things in doubt and it is my personal opinon that he doesnt know what his best team is....
Is fullback ST best postion? Are Deacon and Finch similar players? Lockers at 6? JT in centre? Charnely on the wing not in the centre?
The main thing i have noticed this season are our lasdt kick option when the opposition 20, we always eems to go with cross field kicks to opposition wingers or run the power play, we hardly seem to put the ball in the ingoal area, get a repeat set and have some patience in breaking teams down. Finch put one of these kicks in against Leeds and Rob Burrow had to scramble it back into play, which was a refreshing variety.
I think when Pat returns, fullback will be ST's best position, like last year Pat will be able to drop back and basically play fullback when defending and Sam will be able to play fullback when attacking, which basically won us the league last year. Finch is better than Deacon, time will tell. The fact that we have the option of both is brilliant. Lockers wont last at 6 now, Deacon is near fitness and once Finch gets back to match fitness, Lockers wont play there anymore. I think JT at centre worked really well last week, its up to him and Charnley to fight over Gleesons spot IMO.
Mcguire has had different halves and backs every week due to injuries and suspensions. Once they all return and hit form then the quality of play will improve. We have not been playing well, had injuries and suspensions yet are only two points behind the leaders with a game in hand. His tactics can't be that bad!

aboveusonlypie... If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.

It was a post Bilko made on a thread on the Wire forum that was mocking the W.A.R.R.I.O.R. motivational thing that our coaches use claiming that the W and the last R stood for wishing (and really wishing) that they were a Wire.

Thoughts please..........
Reckon we got out of gaol again. Same as Huddersfield. Leeds will be kicking themselves all over Headingly following this game. Having said that, despite playing below par we have still only lost one game and they do say, the true measure of a great side is that you don't lose even when playing badly.
As for tactics from Madge, he must be scratching his head about the amount of errors the team is coming up with. Really poor completion rate, no player steady under the bomb, 2nd worst points for in SL yet the best defence. We'll come good as our players are better than last year but it's going to take time. I reckon though Sam should be at stand off at least until Finch starts to spark and we've got Deacon back.

It looks as though Deacs will be playing a bit part this year, which is a shame, as we could have done with him as a creative half back and kicker when we have no Pat and the kicking games of MM, TL, SO'L, ST etc are just so poor. If we could have Deacs injury free and at his best, I feel the 6 spot would be a fight between Finch and Sam.

To me, Wigan is the biggest Club in Rugby League and it will be an honour to pull on the famous Cherry-and-White jersey next year. I look forward to working with Shaun Wane and the players at Wigan.ā
