Who are these mysterious mischief makers anyway? If he is yet again moaning about opposition fans creating a bit of banter and trying to get one over on their local rivals (it's practically in the job description of a fan) then it's a bit pathetic really. It's not like it's all over the media or anything, it's just fans doing what they do best and having some banter.

Going solely off what I see on here, I think a combination of factors have made it a bit more than that. Rovers' rise in recent seasons has made Hull's decline a bitterer pill. Because they only thing Hull really had over Rovers in that time was profits (and the related issue of attendances), that became the sole focus of nearly all trolling. This has combined with the imperatives of licensing and a fundamentalist capitalist attitude in some quarters that clubs are just businesses, rather than civic institutions that mostly have and generally continue to require public or private subsidy in one form or another. This monomania and a tendency to exaggerate and misconstrue (deliberately or not) was possibly becoming a problem for the club's image. On the VT negative references are often made to the state of Rovers' finances - sometimes by fans of clubs who are in a rather worse situation in that regard.

How exactly is it causing a problem for HKR that fans of other clubs use finances as a stick to beat HKR fans with? Seriously who cares if posters on the VT think your finances are worse than they actually are? Why does your chairman feel the need to go to the press because some fans on a message board are exagerating things to take the p1$$? It's what they do all the time about just about anything.

Especially when he described fans on this message board particularly as "cabbages". And as far as I'm aware it's only Mrs B who was querying things with any sort of "background info" and anyone else was making stuff up as per.
Hardly worth worrying about and certainly not worth bothering the BBC about.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

I see your point and I hope I wouldn't take it personally in his shoes. But if he doesn't deny, people are more likely to believe it. And this more bullish stance reassures supporters and raises spirits. No business (or privately subsidised civic institution ) wants people to have an exaggeratedly negative opinion of their financial stability. iirc Mike Smith said in an interview that people had sought reassurances from him and then there was the HDM article for which they published an apology. I limited my observation to these boards because it is what I'm familiar with, not because I think the issue spreads no further.

Edited for your reassurance and everybody else's displeasure.

Not that it's any of my business, but why was she banned?
Not something to be discussed. Nothing unpredictable, it'd be fair to say.
