The overall performance level today was clearly not even close to what is acceptable. For me the writing was on the wall when the lads ran out at the start, the enthusiasm just wasn't there. I don't buy into the slope argument, both teams have the same amount of time going up and down it.
Quite simply there were too many errors in key positions, three times we lost the ball on the first tackle and all of Batleys tries in the first half were from the mistakes we made, I don't recall them working to hard for any of their points, their defence was very good however.
Yes the ref was pants and the decision to give a penalty against Danny Mills for not playing the ball in position after he wasn't even tackled was quite frankly embarassing. As was the constant high tackling of Menzie, that now seems to be the only way the opposition can stop him.
I think it's time Coleman or Bergin were given a chance on the wings, Barnett has been very poor last two games (today was a shocker) and Mills whilst playing ok doesn't look 100% fit. Coleman also can kick if Brendon doesn't like it.
Whilst I think we are not in danger of being sucked into the relegation battle, we need a win next week at Whitehaven to be certain that they can't catch us. So not time to panic, but deffinately massive improvement needed on the last two games, which have been tripe.

I completley agree certain players are just not performing as they should , aaron is not the player we were lead to believe he was going to be one of the best half backs in the league , i know he's had his injuries but we should be getting some glimpses of his talent by now ,as for the rest of the team i shall say nothing as dr badvibes sumned it up, this type of performance is just not acceptable. now to mr hicks the penalty against danny mills for not playing the ball in the correct place was down right stupid because when danny got up and ran hicks had not shouted held or told the defence to move so he did the correct thing to carry on ,but as it was mr hicks he told him to play the ball so he did and he gave the penalty for not playing the ball from the correct spot . the batley performance was workman like and they did the basics very well which we didn't and they deserved to win .does not bode well for next week as whitehaven seem to be our bogey team when we play them up there .

I agree with Airbourne Eagle about Michael Haley being our MOM. He seems to have been steadily improving over a few weeks, whilst the rest of the forwards have become a little complacent. Aaron seems to me to be injury prone. I know he's only small, and some of the other guys are pretty big, but he's limping at some stage of the game most weeks now. I WAS feeling pretty confident about the Whitehaven away game until recently, but now I'm just going to view it as a good weekend away, as always, and any decent result we get will be a bonus.

this has been the most frustrating season in ages, despite the obviously talented squad, we seem to be out-enthused by less talented squads, I didnt think Id be writing that about a Sheffield team

i think you hit the nail on the head with that last comment, where has the passion gone, where is the fire in our belllies, wheres that wanting gone???
Like yousaid its not what you expect from us, or would you expect from one of marks teams. sometimes we just dont seem bothered.
we may not have many fans but the ones we do have are bloody passionate about the club we dont travel away in huge numbers but we deserve better than what were getting at the moment..

I'd like to give a mention to Maccy D' he battled on despite most of the team giving up before their feet had even touched the pitch! Heads down, no one looking confident about winnng. It's so frustrating cus like ya say, the talents there on paper, just not turning up to play. Why can we not catch the ball and the oppositon can! Doh. It would b unfair to single Barnett out but eh oh, he's an average winger to say the least and altho Rob Worrincy did have a tendancy to drop the ball, If he did catch it he generally ran FORWARD and made something of it!
"No seriously, a nutless monkey could do your job!"

Paul Broadbent (GB INTERNATIONAL) Daryl Powell (GB INTERNATIONAL) Garry Jack (former Australian International) Lee Jackson (former GB International) Keith Senior ( CURRENT England International) and Mark Aston ( Lance Todd Trophy winner in the biggest upset the Challenge Cup has ever known) to name but a few.
