Having one merged team would not guarantee success as some people seem to think it would, good and bad times would still come along and crowds would still go up and down depending on success, mediocrity or failure. A great deal would be lost by just having one team in the City imo.

I wouldn't go, I'd have to start watching The Barracudas or maybe Rochdale, good heartlands club that. The only bright spot of that would be I'd be able to come on here with loads of original gags about the Hull teams away following.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

It would take something huge to make a merger happen - the arrival of SL wasn't enough. If the sport had a prolonged period of successful expansion or the RFL and RFU kissed and made up, then maybe. I won't hold my breath on either. Other than the exceptional case of Sydney RL clubs, I can't of many big(gish) clubs that have merged. Sampdoria's parent clubs weren't well known outside of Genoa. Then it is Rushden and Diamonds, and Dagenham and Redbridge. If Hearts and Hibs or Bristol City and Rovers merged they might, respectively, challenge the Old Firm or get in the Premier League. It gets talked about occasionally, but never happens.

Did the majority of this even make sense to you?
Why are a combined Bristol City and Bristol Rovers going to join the SPL? You're as mad cheese Mild Rover, as mad as cheese.
