Being coached by a former pack player will always limit the amount of attacking options our team takes. We are a possession team, we like to put pressure on the opposition before taking slight chances.
What I feel Justin needs to realise is that not EVERYONE can be a utility player. Briscoe, Fox, Welham, Webster, Colbon, I'Anson, Dobson, Lovegrove, Hodgson, Clinton, Newton, Galea, Murrell, Fisher, Vella, Watts, Wheeldon. Then you got Cockayne, Cook, Ratu...etc to come in when we need a different type of game.
If we just stuck to playing players in their best positions and then worked at attacking moves and plays we might actually do something potent in attack especially in the opposition 20.
This start to the season has shown me that Dobson isn't the creative player we need he is good but we need a 6 that has experience and ability. Say what we like about Hull signing past it players but we could have used a Sean Long to direct us around.

not doing it so far for us though I'm afraid.
the big problem for the game is that there are very few quality flair players around, people may knock us for signing Long at his age, but there really aren't any other available options.
There were two decisions By Justin Morgan that may have cost us, the first was to leave out I'anson'when he was supposedly fit to play, this left us short of a creative stand off plus it also means he wont be match fit come the derby, as good as Murrell is he will never be a stand off, period!!. The second mistake Morgan made imo, was to take Hogson off during he first half as everything good seemed to be coming through him,(dont mend what isn't broken as the saying goes)unless of course he was injured. The worrying thing is, we dont seem to have any invention or creativity when we get into he oppositions quarter, this has been evident all season and is the reason why we have one of the worst attack stats in super league at present. We desperately need a tallented stand of, hopefuly i'anason will fit the bill but only time will tell, i also think Dobson needs to start taking on the line more as he certainly hasn't of late and didn't sound like he did last night.
Am I missing something? I watched the highlights & they seemed to play well enough or are some people so arrogant as to expect to sweep other teams aside without effort. Rovers could have played better but give credit to the Catalans they were superb in defence & at least one score was from a lucky intercept. Those who expect every player to perform 100% every game need to realise that they have off days & sometimes do not feel on top of the world all the time just like every one of us.

I dont think anyone is been arrogant or expects teams to just lie down and be rolled over, but the stats dont lie. As the league stands, we have played 8 games, scored 133 pts and concedd 175pts, presently we are the fifth lowest scoring team in super league which means last night wasn't just a one off, we are void of ideas in atack at the moment and one just hopes that this will be rectified sooner rather than later. The current average is not that of a top 4 apiring side, having said that, i do have confidence in the team to turn it around and come good at some stage, hopefuly starting on Good Friday.

I really dont think anyone is being arrogant they are just being realistic, Catalans did have a good defence but isn't Dobson paid 100k+ to open these defences?? If we the fans are paying his wages of around 4k a game I certainly want him at his best most of the time. Sure he has an off game now and then and we accept that, we can not be perfectionists however we were 8 minutes off being nilled for the second time this season, we in recent weeks have only just beaten below par teams such as Leeds and Saints, given up a healthy lead against a Wakey side we should have put to bed in the first half. For 1.6million pounds I really do not want to keep saying after every game "oh its just a one off bad game" it is not what these players are paid for its their jobs to create, defend and be ruthless.
Dobson seems to take the brunt of the criticism for not opening up teams, maybe rightly so in some instances but unless he has options to play to he can't work miracles by himself. After watching the game last night I was more worried about the amount of times Dobson had ball in hand and had to play the rubbish inside ball to the prop as there were no runners or dummy runners asking questions of the defence.
We need to make teams think about what we might do, I'Anson coming back may improve this as it will add an extra pivot int he team, but at the moment 5th tackle in the 20 is 90% of the time a short grubber into the in goal that if you know its coming is very easy to deal with.
All that being said, Catalans played really well, I thought the return of Bosc and Walker really boosted them and this being only their 3rd home game made this a really hard fixture.

During the week he said Chaz wasn't 100% fit and didn't want to risk him which was the correct decision

My main worry is that our star half back struggles to make clean accurate passes which makes our other players have much more work to do. He's 23 I think so plenty of time to grow but if he wants or gets given the bulk of the workload then we need to address this sooner rather than later.
Agreed about the decisions of other players, we need more runners on each play but it seems as though they've got a play and anyone not involved is setting up for the next one because we're trying to be one step ahead of ourselves when sometimes we need to just concentrate on the play we are on like the best teams do.
