It may not be just money (Although it will have a big say)

Rugby Union has the Heineken Cup European competition.
It has the Six Nations
It has International tours on a regular basis.

All things that we don't and things that can influence a young player. That is one of the reasons I can never understand a lot of RL fans (from all clubs) putting club Rugby before International Rugby.

We should not be losing the likes of Chris Aston and Lee Smith to Union. The Saints Chief Exec made a very good point on Radio Manchester a couple of weeks ago regarding the salary cap.

He was insistent that there should be a minimum spend on the cap as well as a maximum so that players like Smith and Ashton stayed in the game. he was also of the same opinion as I am regarding the International game.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Money is certainly on offer and for an unproven 18 year old, it's astronomic. As a professional sportsman money will always be a significant factor in where they ply their trade (see Joleon Lescott). Whether being paid to play for his home town club is enough to fight off the lure from ru I guess we'll find out in the coming weeks. Whatever decision is made it will be in the lads best interest and he will have a part to play in that. Whatever is decided I wish the lad well, just hope the rule makers for our game sit up and take notice if we do lose him.

I started a thread on this not so long ago and loads of people said they prefer the club game.

We have more RL fans in this country than we think. Just look at the big events such as the grand final and challenege cup final and thousands turn up. We should not be playing internationals at our place or Hull we should be playing at OT and Ellend road unable to get a ticket, when this happens the international game can grow.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good

sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever

Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go

Surely thats the wrong way round? The interenational game would have to grow before we reach that stage, not after.

By grow I mean reach out to other people.

Getting bigger crowds at our internationals does not involve growth but just all RL fans coming to the games, that is the only thing that is not happening atm.

We can fill stadiums for derbies and for finals when two teams are playing but not when everyone is supporting the same team.

It's frustrating isn't it.

I personally love the international game, and being in Sydney seeing us beat Oz in the Tri-Nations in 06 in what proved to be effectively a meaningless game is up there with any Saints victory.

We should be able to comfortably get 50k to games v Australia.

I think more than that, if everyone who goes on a week to week basis goes then we could get 80k.

It certainly is.

Melbourne in 1992 when we beat the Aussies to go 1 - 1 in the series was one of the greatest Rugby moments I have ever had.

I've had countless debates with fans (mainly Wigan and Saints) and the apathy towards International Rugby League is frightening.

Do you think we'll get a full house for England v Australia at the DW, Brian ?

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery.......

I will look to the moment, and miraculously, the future will take care of itself.

Radio 5 Live, Sat, April 14th, 2007,...Dave Whelan, "In Wigan, rugby will always be king"

'I was certain, positive, convinced, and yet..........unsure'

'It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it'

Worry will not prevent destiny from unfolding.

If we can't get 25,000 for that game we may as well wrap up.

It's mot too long ago we got 50,000 at Old Trafford against the Aussies and 60,000 plus at Wembley.

Maybe the RFL should use the Wigan marketing team.
