I don't know whether Man United and Liverpool supporters have genuine respect for each other. Don't care either. But what I see on this forum usually amounts to United and Liverpool fans giving each other hand jobs.

Taking each point in turn:

Quote:I said that is what it is known as, widely amongst people who work in that area.

With respect, you said nothing of the sort.

You got the name of a piece of legislation wrong. I assumed you made a typo. If you want the absolute truth, I'm pretty sure you do know what you're talking about. Normally, I wouldn't bother picking anyone up on it - but the post that contained said typo was so arrogant and dismissive of the suggestion that someone was qualified to discuss something with you that I couldn't resist. However due to said arrogance, rather than ignore it, you chose to try and wriggle out of it and make yourself look more arrogant than you did initially.

Quote:"All United fans respect Liverpool". You honestly believe that?

No, which is why I didn't say it. In fact, I didn't say anything even remotely close to it. What I actually said was this:

Quote:However, again, as the poster formerly known as Keithcun once pointed out - there is respect there. For proper United & Liverpool fans, that goes both ways.

I narrowed down the pool of people I was talking about by applying my own definition of what I feel is 'proper' e.g. in my view, a proper United fan, or Liverpool fan for that matter, would have respect for the other. Whether that's right or wrong, or whether you disagree with it, doesn't really matter. You wouldn't be half as bothered if Keith said it, probably because he isn't a 'rag'. In fact, if I hadn't pointed out your error you wouldn't have even mentioned it. You felt like the need to get your own back, like a big kid.

Whilst we're on the subject of people 'speaking on behalf of a large group of people' - you do it all the time on this board, particularly when talking about United fans. I've no idea why. You also seem to be very interested in where people are from, hence the reference to plastics which presumably is a criticism of the fact that I was born in Warrington, live in Manchester, and support Warrington and Manchester. Again, I've no idea why this interests or bothers you at all. You support Salford and Manchester city - you can't be from both places, if by some schism in the Universe either team win a trophy before you drop dead I'm sure people will have an undeserved pop at you by claiming you're a glory hunter. Doesn't matter where you're from, it's where you're at. I think Ian Brown said that once. Then again, he also said that Manchester had everything expect a beach.

If you stopped posting on this thread it would be a lot duller place. Your views, whilst occasionally blinkered and one eyed, are always interesting and nearly always well informed - but you don't half make youself look daft on occasion.

Which is a shame because generally I don't think you are.

Mr Gerrard told the court he had been trying to ask Mr McGee why he had a problem with him when the businessman "very quickly" got off his bar stool.

He said he "firmly believed" he was about to be punched, and swung out in self-defence.

How dare Mr McGee get off his bar stool very quickly...good grief, he was asking for it really wasn't he?? I think he owes Stevie an apology at the very least if not some serious compo for dragging his name through the mud...

Fair enough, that's your opinion. I can't say more as I think it will get into a "he did, sir" type of conversation.

You felt like the need to get your own back, like a big kid.

Not correct. I know quite a few United fans and I know that they don't respect Liverpool FC. TBH I don't know any who respect Liverpool FC (certainly not what I would call 'respect').

Quote:Whilst we're on the subject of people 'speaking on behalf of a large group of people' - you do it all the time on this board, particularly when talking about United fans. I've no idea why.

It's banter. Having spent a significant proportion of my life in Salford I was surrounded by Reds. My family are Red. Most of my mates up north support United etc.. I know what Reds are like.

I have always thought that quote by Brown is mis-used. He's a fake. Anything interesting that came out of his mouth was accidental, I'm sure if it.

I think I answered the Salford question above. I have never lived in another area that had an RL team.

I have yet to understand or empathise with those who support a team, esepcially one in which they have no links. It flies in the face of what I feel as a supporter. I 'support' Cronulla, Schalke and Cleveland Browns. I'm not really a supporter though, am I? I have no links to them, apart from sleeping on a couch in Cronulla for two months or so and watching several Sharks games and liking the style of RL they played. I wouldn't get into a debate with a fan of, say, Werder about Schalke because I have no passion for the club. That's how plastics and JCLs must feel, so I have no desire to debate with them or respect them (as fans of X) as the 'support' they give to their team is contrived IMO.

Four top six finishes. Well done. How exciting that must have been. I mean, finishing one place lower would have been extremely disappointing, and a complete failure.

Look at your points for those seasons, and you are as close to getting relegated as you are to winning the league. Well done. Truly brilliant.

It was actually, considering all pre season on both occasions we where told how Newcastle, Spurs and Villa would be challenging for 5th place and apart from Villa the others didn't come close. A poor start to the season cost us bigtime, had we played like we did towards the end at the start then we could have put a better challenge than Villa on fourth last season, but even that wouldn't have been an achievement, eh?

Would you rather finish tenth than 5th?

As for your points tally we finished 27 points behind United and 29 ahead of Newcastle. Closer to the top than the bottom, so we are not as close at all.

The jealousy statement is aimed at the fans of those who were at the second tier of the Premier League, who wished it had been them receiving the billions instead of us. Fans of a particular blue shirted club two miles away from where I am at the moment spring to mind immediately here and, let me tell you, you are displaying the symptoms more than a leprosy victim carrying his own leg.

Great line but what have I said exactly that makes me so jealous?

D.D. wrote:If you think that I said I would like to be up there for ten years and then that I want it to go tits up then you are obviously dimmer than a one watt bulb. What I quite clearly stated was that I would rather have that scenario than have another thirty years of achieving nothing, or virtually nothing. Obviously, we would all like us to reach the top and sustain that till the day we die, I was merely pointing out which of the other two options I would prefer.

I didn't say you did want to go tits up at all. Of course non of us want our teams to achieve nothing over the next thrity years, we all want to win things.

D.D. wrote:Unless Everton get the financial backing, something not too far off the level we have got now, then you can carry on dreaming. You will never be ready to break the big four and sustain it. Without bucket loads of cash, you cannot hope to achieve anything. That's a simple fact. You've probably already reached a plateau and the only way for Everton now is downhill.

Apart from your last sentence I totally agree. We know without investment similar to what you have had this summer we won't break the top four, or of we somehow did we could not sustain that level. Everyone needs investment and without the financial backing to Moyes we are limited on what we can achieve. That is why what we have done the last few seasons has been a really good achievement and a good start, a basis to build on. If we want to move on and develop further we need a hell of a lot of cash and right now we won't get that.

TBF, Lee helped move us in the right direction financially during his time as chairman – he had the badge redesigned so that we could copyright it and gain control of merchandising etc. His biggest problem (and it was a pretty big one) was, having once got back involved in football, suddenly realising he'd missed it and deciding he wanted to be personally involved in the team – undermining the coach, buying players without the coach's knowledge (Kinkladze) etc.

Lord God Jose Mourinho wrote:... 2)Citeh's Sheik has made no (or few) public comments and most (or all) of the takeover and player purchases have been conducted by his employees...

There have been a number of statements made by Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the chairman. He was installed very quickly after the first chairman after the takeover went around making daft statements (buying Ronaldo etc). I don't know whether Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been to a game, but Khaldoon has been to several and is certainly the owner's 'face' and contact with the fans. They seem to be very concerned to do business properly, and I think Gary Cook's responsible for a lot of that too. We're more professional as an club than I can remotely remember.

And just as a little update on our swollen ranks of strikers: Caicedo has gone on loan to Sporting Lisbon for a season and Ched Evans has signed for the Blades. Tevez has an injury and won't play in tomorrow's SA final game against the Kaizer Chiefs, but Adebayor is expected to make his debut.

Indeed the odds were clearly stacked in his favour. He should have tied his hands behind his back first to make it a bit fairer!
