If he signed for Saints, he would get coached into playing his weight and would be a very good standard.

Unless something drastic happens to the coaching setup at Wigan, its a lose-lose situation.

I think he has been the form prop since the salford game, not disappointed at all with his performances of late.
I do agree that coaching has a lot to do with the performances, but not just
him , all the team . A new coach would possible bring the best out of them.

This is a key point.

There are plenty of good players at Wigan. Most of the first team would get into any other first team in the competition.

There are two questions here: Why do good players become average players when they're at Wigan? And why do average players at Wigan become good players when they go somewhere else?

Two questions - and one answer.

He's a player i think a few superleague teams have looked at for a number of years now but nobody has ever taken a punt on him.

We don't need any wingers but there must be a superleague side that could mould him into a better player.

Calvert played for Wigan.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Yet still, that isn't very good.

As usual we over-bill our form players, and he's played a lot better of late yet he cannot resist stopping before he hits the line, running sideways and knocking on.

Surely coaching the first two out of him would make him a far better player?

Didn't know that.

Was he on trial at some point?

He's had trials at both Wigan and Warrington, in the U21s.

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

Right.

I'm suprsied nobody from superleague has ever taken him on especially when you consider teams like Salford and Celtic have come up and have been scratching around for players.

He's always been rapid when i've seen him but maybe he's got too many flaws.

clifford wrote:ok here goes....It just seems that you think other clubs would not be interested in the likes of coley and bailey because your opinion of them is so low. saints have enforcer props in graham etc and realistically might want coley who is solid in defence and quite quick for a prop to sit on there bench as fourth choice prop. So to would wire. The qualities they have will be snapped up at other clubs. I understand that we dont have an enforcer prop and need one (Coley is certainly not that) but I would still like to see him being kept on at Wigan for the same reasons that the likes of saints, wire and possibly hudds are interested in having him at their clubs for.
Do you kind of understand the point i am making? I still want to see Kite and Webb here, dont get me wrong.

You make the point that Saints and Wire would use him as a 4th choice prop and would like to seem him used in that way I would agree but he would not be used as a 4th choice prop would he? He would be a first choice prop because the standards at Wigan are that low. I agree other players deserve to leave before Coley but their contracts are not out yet are they? We can only deal with things as they come and have the opportunity to strengthen our forward pack by releasing Coley and Bailey and bringing in players who will improve the squad.

We can sign Coley and Bailey for another year all we want but we will only see the same pack get smacked across the park by other teams and players like Tronc going to Wakefield.
