The game was the same old story this season for Leeds in the Super League, winning without been anywhere near our best. We peaked far too soon last season, and managed to swing it back round. I think Bluey is taking us back to the top of the summit in baby-steps. It's a long season and you ahve to prepare for one.

Totally agree, top of the league and nowhere near our best what more can you ask for?

Can somebody tell me how many of our first team were "rested" yesterday?

We had 13 academy products play yesterday, Wigan take note, and twelve of them were in the starting line up. Hell even the Wire had one of our academy products in their team!

But must be a worry that in 4 out of the 5 games we have played, in truth the oppossition have been the better side.

I see the argument, but in truth it isn't worrying me much. As said above, it'll be a long season, after a pretty short off-season. We've had some injuries, and also some squad rotation already and we've certainly started slowly. But through that slow start, we've found ways to win and got 4 wins out of 4. Compare that to the teams likely to be the main competition for honours this year and things suddenly don't look too bad. The trick will be to be able to step up a gear or two as the competition goes on. What we are seeing again is the capacity of our squad players to come in and get the job done, which is reassuringly and could pay off when we have injuries nearer the business end of the season.

What about our defence? How much did we soak up? And surely your attack should come under more scrutiny, given your field position and repeat sets?

Gotta love that ginger guy!!! I bet Penny does anyway.

Oh I dont dissagree with you on that. Hopefully that is the case.

And if we were doing this less than 10 years ago, I would not have cared. winning is winning, and all we wanted.

However, I do think the rugby we are playing at the moment is quite frankly pretty poor stuff, and not enjoyable to watch. The tactics so far this season have been mainly one man rugby, which is not a spectacle. But winning we have done despite this.

I suppose when you get used to winning you get spoilt and want more, and right now that is what I want to see, as rugby fan.

Last year we were on fire and got thrashed by Cas. This was always going to be one of the toughest fixtures of the year - straight after the WCC. Warrington have outplayed most of their opposition for one half of the game pretty much every week this year (including Saints), so you have to think they can play a bit. Then you throw Tony Smith into the mix and this looks like a really, really good win - especially with the guys missing.

By my reckoning, we've played 5 games so far this season and are yet to score more than 1 try in each half of a game. We definitely aren't firing on all cylinders yet but we're still top of the table.

If we can still be top after the next 2 games, I'll be happy.

There are two facets to Rugby league. Attack and defence. Looks to me like our defence is awesome and there is nothing lucky about our Victory against Warrington. If they can't beat us with the weight of possession and territory they enjoyed then their attack is a bigger worry than ours and well done to our defence.

The offensive fluency will come.

We're not out of 2nd gear, unbeaten and top of the league. Only Leeds fans could fine room to complain about that.

So a Wire fan wasn't impressed with us. Who gives a feck anyway? How would a Wire fan know how to judge a championship team? They're us from the 80's.[/i]

A win away against a team tipped to be top 3 or 4, with the following players missing:

Webb
Senior
Buderus
Diskin
Kirke
Eastwood

Seems good to me.

How many did Wigan have on Saturday, and how many would Leeds have had if Webb, Senior, Buderus and Eastwood had been available.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Well, if your Academy played Friday all of them.

How many did you have on Saturday?
