Do you reckon? consider an alternative way of putting it "go on then, if you think you have a chance appeal". There is always going to be an appeals procedure, but that's far from a guarantee that it'll work. Wouldn't imagine that the consulate had been working on its own initiative to turn down a visa application from an international sportsman.

Although I don't know the exact reason for the refusal, I have a fair understanding of what's probably happened. If Crocker can argue that the visa people should have looked at the case differently, then he stands a chance

surely there shouldn't be anyway to look at it, apart from straight down the line. aka set guidelines/criteria
