| After watching the game on tv tonight i have to admit the players Saints had tonight and fans seem to be the most badly behaved that i have seen! Every referee decision was booed, 2 Saints players where sin binned and the one was sent off started to kick off with the ref and refused to leave the field and then some fans wanted to murder the Leeds Manager after the game! Are they the worst losers in British RL of what? Saints fans think they can have there way in every game and when things do not go there way the players and fans seem to want blood

| Very very strange behaviour from both players and fans. A meaningless game in March.
Personally I’d have given the penalty for a shoulder charge but can understand why it wasn’t given.
The Hurrell shoulder to the head was an absolute shocker IMO.
Soft defence cost Saints that game.
The fans trying to attack Smith was so funny, I’m glad Jenna called them out.

A combination of drink and a sense of grievance.
I thought both yellow cards were harsh, and the red one should have been yellow.
But to go on the pitch and confront people is the sign of a total idiot, and idiots come out of the woodwork when a team has success.

| Didn’t see much of what’s gone on but noticed Welsby running in and trying to ref the game again, when Walters put a shot on someone. Good to see him penalised for it.

| Does Paul Wellens have control of his team?
Based on last night you would have to say no.
Despite gifting Saints points and field position, Leeds wouldn’t go away and Welsby, Sironen and a few others decided to take matters into their own hands.
Perhaps they missed the calming influence of Roby but they were beaten by a poor Leeds side.
In short, they lost the plot.

| Welsby is a fantastic player but the ego might become a problem.
You can be sure he wouldn't have been as brave getting in the face of Walters a few years ago when throwing a punch wasn't an automatic ban for a couple of months.

They have a few players who just decide that when they think something is a penalty, they will stop the game by pushing and shoving and running in. They did it against us on a couple of occasions last year. When Liam Moore is referee he is played like a fiddle, so it was good to see Kendall not fall for it. It’s little wonder they’ve complained about him in the past and Liam Moore seems to be reasonably popular.

In all honesty I think it stems from ego. Its not really a criticism - if you win four titles and a WCC you obviously have a right to think highly of yourself. But perhaps after beating Penrith and playing a Leeds side that everyone was expecting would be beaten heavily there was a sense of incredulity that the game was even in the balance. That's what led to the brain explosions from the players and fans for me.
If you actually look at the supposed 'shoulder charge' without seeing what you want to see it's clear that there is no rotation of the body to lead with the shoulder and the left arm is around the body of the attacker. The players and fans latched on to it to try and attribute the defeat to external factors.

| I think it was really poor from St Helens. They deserved everything they got and were pretty grubby throughout the game. I don’t know if it was fatigue, tactical or just players losing self control. It’s all about composure, we’ve been guilty of losing composure in the past (and I’m sure we will do again), in a way it was nice to see them do it too.
If Welsby doesn’t go flying in they would have ended up with a penalty not Leeds. There were quite a few late shots, something all the players know has been clamped down on, yet they kept doing it.
Hurrell’s red was as blatant as they come. A few years ago it would have been yellow, but today it’s a text book red. Shoulder charge, Direct contact with the head and late. People will say he he’s not that kind of player and didn’t intend it but he had the opportunity to start to turn and follow the play, he chose to stand his ground and put the shoulder in.
As for that small section of fans, appalling behaviour. Well done to (can’t remember her name) for calling them out. Wilkin wasn’t any better either.

Wilkin was showing his true colours big time. He was furious that it wasn't the Saints party night he'd been hoping for.
But it could have been worse. Imagine if Eddie Hemmings had been on the mic.

| I had a Saints fan on another forum telling me Morgan Smithies needs to improve his behaviour. He conceded 4 penalties in 2022 and had zero red or yellow cards.
Saints gave away 8 penalties, had 2 players sin binned, one red carded, abused the ref, abused the opposition coach and we’re falling out with each other on the field on Friday.
I’ll ask him again for some suggestions.

Theyve been up there since Wolfe came in, coupled with the dark arts that has been spoken about numerous times.
Constantly throwing their arms in the air pleading for decisions, yapping away at officials, going down at "Smart" moments in games to get decisions reviewed.
In fact Friday you could hear Wilking almost praising Wilkin for interfering to get the game stopped to review the incident and then 2 mins later he was a millimeter away from having a pop at Myler for staying down to do the same, until he realised Hurrwll didn't have a leg to stand on.

There is an element of it being Saints, of course there is, but I think any club would be getting talked about when they’ve gone in to the sort of meltdown Saints did Friday. The only time I see/hear players, officials and the crowd going in to that sort of tantrum mode is at Catalans. It’s not an excuse but I think they feel there’s a bit of them (as in the English) against us that goes on and while it’s not true, you do always have that in your mind, much in the same way as when we get an Aussie ref in games against Australia.

Not sure that the players and officials were in meltdown. Percival granted was extremely angry and had to be spoken to by Walmsley but Wellens handled it really well I thought with his post-match comments, giving Leeds credit and making no excuses. I also loved the fact he said he is seeking clarification with the officials this week as if shoulder charges are now allowed then we have players who love to tackle and he will now tell them to do that
Welsby reacted to what he thought was an illegal shot, lots of players do similar so not sure what the fuss was there.
A small section of fans were embarrassing unfortunately. Even leaving the ground there was fighting somewhere as stewards were running and you could hear the noise. Not nice when you have your 10 and 12 year old lads with you. That smacks of being sore losers and its disappointing.
I was more bothered with our performance. We missed 54 tackles, a number which we probably struggle to beat in a month if not longer. We looked shot to pieces, leggy and falling off tackles.
I've said before there is a blueprint to beating Saints and thats going wide early to nullify our compressed defence. If a team has the speed and ability to do this we'll struggle. If some passes had stuck for Castleford last week then they would've scored more points.
Given that we have lost Batchelor for 10 weeks, then for Sironen and Matautia to continue with their late hits was ridiculous. They spent half of last season sat in the stands and know what's coming. They have to be better. Hurrell just lost his head with that one, very uncharacteristic from him
However with all that said and how poor and ill disciplined we were, Makinson kicks that easy penalty that he missed and we win the game. Its certainly no time to overreact.
The WCC will impact on us this season, I said that before a ball was kicked and we won't be winning the LLS this season. Its how we respond now that's key

| Wellens handled it well but made a sarcastic comment about whether shoulder charges are allowed.
I suspect it sounded something like...

So basically,
Wellens honest in defeat-
Fans fighting, shouting at Rohan and everyone not connected with Saints-
Hurrell kicking bottles etc
Welsby running in (everone else does that)-
Percy being told to calm down as he was losing it by Walmsley-
And you are not sure that Players/officials?fans not in meltdowm -OK
Only person to come out with any credit was Wellens.(just about )

To be fair I had forgotten about Hurrell kicking bottles so yes him and Percival were in meltdown. Still only 2 in total though
Can you honestly say you've never seen another player react to his mate being tackled like Welsby did? Happens all the time.
I've no excuses for those fans, they let the club down big time

| Mr nice guy Hurrell, direct shoulder to the head. Then argues and spends at age getting off the pitch, then boots some bottles towards a member of staff on the bench.
Embarrassing.
