| Quote NickyKiss="NickyKiss"We need to become more Saints-like in our approach to games in that we know when to raise the tempo of games, when to slow it, when to chance our arm and when to play out the sets.
If we could manage all that theres enough good players at the club to achive something imo.'"
I agree.
But a lot of that comes from consistently winning, and closing out close games.
IMO there is a good team in there just waiting to burst out, but they need to be patient.

| Quote Bilko="Bilko"I've written along those lines in my match report. Not clever at times. Highlighted by Amos Roberts who threw a stupid offload after a break into Gleeson's leg second half. He forced a never on pass despite us leading.
'"
Roberts in the Catalan game and again today has looked brain dead. He's challenging Hock in those stakes playing like that.
The likes of Roberts, Gleeson, Hock etc etc all need to play that bit smarter. They're all fine players but could produce so much more if they just calm down and play to a gameplan.

I agree but that will come with a settled team, we have the tactics generally, we jus need a settled side and go from there.

I still think it's where we really miss a Farrell type leader. He was like an onfield coach and would get the message across to the rest of the side.
Cunningham is the man who does that at Saints.
No disrespect meant to Lockers who's been sensational this year but he seems to just have one pace and thats full throttle.
We need somebody who can step back from the game and asses the situation.

| Really enjoyed it today. Wigan have gone from 5 drives and a kick to the harlem globetrotters!
I've watched them away 4 times this season...Warrington, Harlequins, Barrow and Wakefield. I must be doing something right.

| A decent game to watch. We must improve on our discipline and ball retention otherwise we will get tonked by Stains who will be hurting after that defeat against Bradford. The referee was awful and the flamin Wakefield fans! FORWARD , FORWARD, FORWARD, FORWARD, PENALTY, OFFSIDE, KNOCK ON, HIGH TACKLE, HOLDING DOWN, INTERFERENCE. Really annoying.
Anyway Ainscough had a decent game. Took his four tries well. Backed himself passed Blanch every time. Something Roberts and Richards seem to hesitate about doing and come back on the inside. Ainscough doesn't. Good lad. Was out jumped twice by Blanch and is something he will have to improve on. He needs some help from his centre at times. Although he took a really high bomb from Danny Brough and spun around and backed himself down the touchline and got us on the front foot. If he can just sort out a few things in his game he will be a world class winger for us.
Tim Smith was brilliant today. Created our first 3 tries IIRC. Was brilliant his quick fire passes were cutting Wakefield to ribbons and set up a try for Phelps with a neat chip kick as well during the second half. Very impressive I must admit.
Andy Coley deserves a mention. He was fantastic today. Always made many metres going forward and put in some big shots in defence. At the moment he is playing some fantastic rugby. Keep it up!
Mark Riddell went off injured hope nothing is serious.
Did anybody see that shot Sculthorpe put in on Fielden at the end? Dirty swine.
Overall a decent game to watch. Wigan looked very strong in attack and gifted Wakefield tries. They would not have scored otherwise. Need to improve our discipline and keep control of the ball.
We back this up and we will go okay next week.

I was astounded it wasn't a penalty but on reflection my viewing of it was at a funny angle and i couldn't quite see where the contact ended up.
It left Fielden dazed though and again was a little indication of how far he's fallen. A few years back he would have got straight up and took Scully on but today he wobbled to his feet and was quite happy to be withdrawn from the fray without taking another drive in.

Hes got a lot to learn and is quite clearly not a starting wigan RL player. I would prefer to play some second rate aussie favourate, whos defencive problems are far worse than ainscoughs, but doesnt score many tries!!
Yes Brian....you are slowly but surely showing you have lost the plot!! Bl00dy Idiot!!
The only person with a lot to learn is a coach who continues to use one man out rugby, a beat em up the middle bullyboy style, without having the pack to back it up because he knows no other style of coaching.
Maybe nobby just has a problem because he only likes wingers who are 6'11 and built like props
Surely if Ainny has defencive frailities, coach him to overcome them COACH?!??! Maybe book him some time with radders to improve his defence, if your not up to the job of coaching young stars?!, as he is quite clearly on the road to being the best winger this country has seen for 10 years!!
BRIAN NO-BALLS!!

How about Brian bring Vaeliki back, on four times as much wedge?
He's pretty good defensively, won't score you 13 tries mind.

McAvoy would be a far better bet as he can cover win exceptionally well aswell as playing at centre.

And there's the Bradford link.
Think we're on a winner. (or maybe not).
