| Quote ="Talent Spotter"It seems strange that we are in for someone now after Harris was quoted as saying the signing of Taylor was 'the final piece in the jigsaw' for 2014.
Coupled with Ellery Hanley being interviewed for a director of rugby role without the knowledge of Harris, I just hope the coach has had some input into this supposed new signing.'"
I understand whomever this player is, wasn’t a target and the opportunity to sign him was an unexpected one, but at the same too good to ignore.
I must admit the Ellery Hanley story is a bizarre one. I hope I am reading it wrong and that Hanley wasn’t offered a position by Marwan before Harris had even been consulted on the matter.

| Can't get my head round the Hanley story, sure he has a well known name in the sport but he has been too far removed from it for so long. Pretty this is the same sort of position that would been taken up by Noble had he 'moved upstairs'. Difference is Noble is still heavily involved in the sport and to the best of my knowledge hasn't ruffled the feathers that Hanley has over the years.

| Marwan said "good English player played at Wing"... Could that English player currently be playing Union? How about someone like Chris Ashton?

Hanley, while being an incredible player has been nothing but divisive off the field his entire life. Which is why he hasn't done a great deal after finishing playing. The fact that he comes with a lot of baggage, been out of touch with the progression in the game. While undoubtedly his voice carries weight, I doubt many listen these days.
He's too much of a dinosaur and is a little too, how should I put this... Self-interested. To take a chance on.

Not a bad shout.
I think we've all been guilty of thinking a little too insular on this one. You never know.

| Actually chris ashton is a very good shout, he is rumoured to be leaving saracens and a lot of their fans believe to France but i actually hope he comes back to league. Also maybe Marwan didn't make a mistake and just played on words?

| Ashton would do nicely, he has mysteriously bulked up considerably while in RU so RL could well benefit.
Very strong, quick and a good finisher which is the type of player you need, him outside Sa'u would be a belting combination.

| Doesn’t fit with the criteria I have been told i.e signing from another Super League team, plus he isn’t what we need is he? I am also more than happy with BJB and Greg Johnson as our first choice wingers.
All of the above means absolutely nothing though – Ashton would obviously be a great signing for any Super League team.

| Another shout could be Jordan Thompson at Hull. Played for England Academy and can play in the backs or the pack.

Decent player is Thomspon, very strong runner, did a very good job at prop for us when we were short, but a spell in the backrow and he could be a very good backrower.
Not a player that would demand all this hype though.
Whiting could be an option.

| If it is Chris Ashton he wouldn't count on the cap either (at least not for the first year), which makes it even more of a possibility.

Could also be interpreted as the evil meglomaniac Marwan not just riding roughshod over the wishes of everyone else - as most people like to believe he does - and listening to his coach's opinion.

Where would he fit in the team though? On the wing ahead of Johnson and BJB? I doubt he's better than either of them. In the centre? Has he player there before?

I can't speak for Marwan but if I valued Iestyn's opinion I would have certainly asked him about Hanley, prior to arranging for him to fly over from Spain for a meeting/interview.
The MEN article I believe reflects a little negatively on the club, MK, Harris and does Hanley's future job prospects in rugby league no favours either. A pointless story in my opinion that highlights the owner and CEO are not communicating fully with the head coach.

The story seems too specific for it not to be true.
Surely what the club needs right now is a period of stability, and Harris had every right to object when asked for his opinion.
Most of the team has now played a fair amount together, integrating Dobson is a great challenge to have,so let's see how Harris performs before shaking the tree again.
Hanley has many great qualities but would probably have been wrong for us right now.

I am a bit hacked off with all and sundry 'bagging' Ellery Hanley.
He won things while a coach at St Helens.
His putative arrogance didn't prevent him dropping into the lowest tier to coach Doncaster;they were promoted, were they not?
I believe his son is on the Academy books at Salford.
Dr K wanted Flanagan from Cronulla Sharks shortly after Harris was appointed. This would suggest that the much-maligned owner - not only maligned by opposition supporters - wants the position of Director of Football to be filled.
The intricacies of the position and devolved powers may have been the stumbling block.
The former owner of Doncaster - and friend of Hanley while he was coaching - was Craig Harrison, who left to set up as an agent.
He has the Show Me The Money UK agency and has a fair number of players on his books.
This is his Twitter - https://twitter.com/SMTMUK It seems the website is down.
Save your time slagging me off - i'm just about out of here.
