| I drove, not done that for a good few years.
And there's a little difference to subsidiary payments compared to zero contribution maximum allowance of a system.
I'm not blaming migrants nor am I deterring them from seeing a doctor but if they haven't contributed to the health service why should I be forced through Ni contribution and they roll up and get it for nothing. They want it then they pay for it like I would be expected to do in say USA if I was on holiday.
Like I say I've no issue with migrant workers as long as infrastructure is designed to take them seamlessly, if we are short or over stretched in any public service then open doors to millions is just idiotic.
As for a TB epidemic wouldn't an open policy with strict conditions including health checks be a better system rather than a simple opendoor policy with zero conditions other than being of Europe?

| I wonder how the Wail and Depress readers felt when Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, and Cyprus went down the proverbial.
Were they wailing and gnashing over their cornflakes/continental breakfast?
Were we not INVADED by hordes from these countries who were at the bottom of the pile coming over here etc.?

| Quote Hull White Star="Hull White Star"I've often wondered about issuing death certificates if a person died in the air. I know from research you can get birth & death certificates "at sea", but I wonder how they go about it "in the air". Would it be the coroner for the country in which you were landing in or left? Same with the registrar.'"
Well seeing as you asked
This is absolutely true as related to me by an uncle who knew the two blokes involved.
When my dads flatmate had reached a point of near death with his liver failure - he'd never sought medical opinion or taken any drugs other than pain killers but knew exactly what was happening - he rang two of his friends at home and asked them to fly out to Benidorm and book three flights home, they were there within a couple of days and got him to Alicante and on a plane.
An hour into the flight they tried to wake him up but couldn't, it was then that they realised that he'd expired and rather than tell anyone and be involved with all sorts of hassle at Leeds/Bfd Airport they frog-marched him off the plane telling everyone he was drunk, wangled a wheelchair for him and got him out to a taxi - he was declared dead on arrival at the LGI.
Absolutely true and as fine a send off as I could think for him, he would have thought it hilarious and would have included the tale in his stage act for sure.

It's not xenophobic it's logistics, typical of the left wing if it sounds right wing attack the person.
We don't currently have the infrastructure to cope, I don't care which governments fault it is, they're all as bad as each other, the truth is school don't have places and hospitals are overrun, overworked and underfunded.
If it was Britain 2 and Britain 3 instead of Romania and Bulgaria I'd still think the same, it's a numbers thing that's it.
So are you going to join the adults now or do I lower myself to your childish level?

Sorry, didn't mean to suggest that you thought that.
I agree to a point. The system will do ok in the good times when it's getting real terms increases but when it's not then it's going to struggle and any additional call on the system isn't good.
Like with most immigration issues there is generally only a problem when one area has to deal with a large proportion of immigrants, be they long or short term.
I understand there is effectively a "waiting period" for new EU entrants where they are expected to adopt most EU rules eg ECHR, trade regulations etc but aren't eligible for all aspects, which is why it's only now that Bulgarians are allowed to come here. IIRC I think it's been 7 years, maybe that should be extended to something like 15 years? And a proper plan to help get new entrants economies up to a more similar level. I know there's a transition fund but it doesn't seem to have much impact.
Also is forcing new entrants to join the Euro a good idea?
I'm sure there are things we can do here to alleviate the effects, the increasing use of recruitment agencies isn't helpful in this regard.
Also more government money for areas effected by immigration would be helpful.

This is a statement I have heard made many times but I haven't seen any evidence to back it up. Are you able to link to any?
Just curious.

This was a problem in certain towns following the influx of eastern Europeans post 2004. I remember one programme - something like Panorama but I'm not sure that it was that particular programme - investigating the pressures public services were under in certain areas. Peterborough springs to mind. If memory serves they ran out of school places among other problems.
