You know things are bad when even the Torygraph is writing sympathetic articles.

| Quote Sal Paradise="Sal Paradise"Workhouses - and you have the arrogance to talk about Tory Morons!!
You simply don't get it - benefits should be there to provide the minimum requirements not present an opportunity for those who don't work to have a better lifestyle than those who do. A person with a low pay job in Leeds or Bradford will live in Gipton, Manningham etc because that is all they can afford. Many will rent rooms - that is what I did when I first left home - which will not be subsidised. Does it matter -especially as many of these will have Philpottitous i.e. not looking for a job - whether they live in Leytonstone or Croydon?
There will be plenty of people who have lived in subsidised accommodation all their adult life that will end up in residential care at the end of it - why should anyone who has done without to buy a house have to use that equity to fund care that others get for free?'"

Good to see that nobody has fallen for the attempts to link this case and the entirely different issue of benefits/welfare.

| This class war has been going on for decades now. Its time for the dispossessed to resist and form a parliamentary party that will stand up for those at the bottom of society.

I am amazed that you cannot see the class war that has been waged against those at the bottom of society for decades - the haves stealing from and victimising the have nots. It has to stop. Since all 3 main political parties have acting in collusion for decades the only solution is the formation of a new political party....or rioting and revolution - but as a conservative I prefer the former to the latter course of action.

Yes to both questions. The existing of a class war is undeniable, the most obvious manifestation is that one group in society has caused the banking crisis, the sovereign debt crisis and the Euro crisis whilst another group is forced to suffer for the selfishness and corruption of the other, and is routinely vilified in the press and discriminated against in wider society (to a far larger extent that ethnic minorities, Muslims, Jews, homosexuals and women).

The problem with a new party is that discrimination has thus far, very deliberately, been aimed at a minority that on their own could not give a party that represents them a majority. That's why they can be bullied. The traditional middle classes have always been weasely, frightened, petty snobs who can easily be manipulated into looking down on others and calling them lazy, etc. The reality has always been somewhat different - as you have already found - the middle classes get jobs that pay more, they work less and get more perks.

Sadly it seems that you do not grasp the realities of the class war. You are clearly blinded by outdated Marxist thinking that the problem is one of an economic nature. This is no longer the 19th century. The battle between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat ended a long-time ago.

No, the middle classes are now used as an instrument to villify the poorer whilst they themselves are discreetly treated with comtempt. The current struggle is not a class one it is a greed based one. One that is approaching end game. Either we'll end up with a global, quasi-fascist economic elite dominating or their will be mass bloodshed - probably not just rioting revolution but international conflict. I fear the latter. I think we are on the brink of major historic events.

The current conflict is between the middle-aged and the young. The middle-aged have destroyed this nation's finances and economy, and it is the young that are forced to pay for it with higher unemployment now and drastically lower living standards in the future as we must pick up the bill for the middle-aged's addiction to government spending which has caused the catastrophic level of national debt. The corruption, selfishness and infantile nature of the middle aged is abominable. Like children, they expect to be molly-coddled by the State through cradle-to-grave benefits - welfare, NHS, pensions etc. The concept of individual responsibility and civic duty is anathema to the baby-boomers, and it is the young who are left to pick up the pieces. It is the young who have few job prospects, who are unlikely to ever get on the housing ladder, who suffer the injustice of taxation without representation, who are the main victims of crime caused by the middle-aged's opposition to stiff law+order policies, who have to grow up in a society which is creeping towards authoritarian government in which the press is regulated, Habeus Corpus has been suspended, defendants are tried by on-the-spot fines or secret courts, who are sent to fight in wars and then abandoned when they return home injured, who must now live in a country whose defence budget has been ravished to such an extent that our country cannot fight a major war, who are vilified in the press on a daily basis, who are unable to go out in public without risking interrogation from the police or carrying ID at all times, who are unable to go to certain shopping centres wearing clothes of their own choosing, who are sometimes banned from entering newsagents, who are denied the chance to move up in society through gaining a good education - first the grammar schools were closed, then higher education was shut to all but the very rich and now the NUT oppose new proposals to provide decent schooling to kids with their preference for propaganda to fact-based-learning, who have been cut-off from their heritage as Britons through the middle aged's penchant for mass immigration and being governed by Germany, who will be forced to live with the violent consequences of the middle aged's decision to Balkanise this country.
People aged 16-29 are the most down-trodden and persecuted group in society. This injustice must end and the only way to do it is to create a new political party. A lot of youngsters used to believe that the Lib Dems would represent them, look at how that has turned out.
