QuoteBuckleyStreetWire="BuckleyStreetWire"I only ever lived in Warrington for three years of my life and[u I've only ever met two [/u[uWidnes fans in my life.[/u I don't really feel anything towards Widnes. No animosity nor hatred. I certainly don't like them and I want to beat them when we play them but only like I do Salford or Huddersfield.
For me it's a pick between Saints and Wigan. I'd probably say Wigan. But they have each other. But teams can have rivalries that aren't just their most local rival and more than one rival. Different fans can have different feelings of hatred towards a rival to someone else. I know fans of United in association football who hate City most but also know some who hate Liverpool most.
I don't know. Do we even have to have a biggest rival? You can't just make one up.
What I will say is that a close rival in the league table for a few years or a collection of finals against teams or even just a few memorable games with a team can spark a rivalry. Look at Chelsea and Leeds in association football again; they don't have a geographical rivalry, but they hate each other.'"
Are they the brother and sister that go to most Widnes games ?
The question is a bit stupid really because your biggest rivals are whoever is standing in your way of achieving some silverware(not that we'll be having that problem for a while!). If the question is who do you hate the most, or who do you want to beat more than anyone then the answer is widnes. I started watching in the late 80s and even though widnes were a decent side wigan were the dominant force. Even then our true derby was widnes and it was the game that created the most passion amongst supporters.
When I first started watching Warrington I'd have said Wigan, then for years it was Saints as I was so desperate for us to beat them. Now I simply want Warrington to do well and can't say I "hate" any rugby league team.
