I was in Clark's shoe shop the other week, they were having a sale and I thought I might get some comfy shoes for work (how middle aged does that make me sound?) and I noticed a very disturbing development.



I used to love it as a kid going to Clark's down Olderness Rerd, what I liked most was putting your foot in foot measuring machine. It made a great buzzing noise and then it squeezed your foot from four directions to ascertain the size. Exciting, well it was if you came from Aldbrough where the most exiting thing likely to happen was your house falling off the cliff.



Anyway, they've changed the machine. It's now a laser thing, the kids just put their foot on a plate and then it tells you what size it is. That's it. No buzzing, no threat of crushed foot. Rubbish.

As, clearly, are your driving skills.

We've got four land line phones in our house, they can ring each other. Often when I'm having my breakfast Ms. Terrorist will ring down with her order. On Wednesday morning as I was getting up she said to me; "I think I'll have Actimol instead of fruit juice today", I replied that I'm getting some breakfast order slips printed up, it needs to be outside the door by five in the morning, and which newspaper do ou require?



She took took that seriously, had to do flaming kedgeree this morning.

What do people think of fee-charging cash machines? My thoughts are that they're a total rip-off - being charged just to access your money, but some people defend them saying they're providing a service. Thoughts?

Yeah they are a service IMHO.

I had =#FF0000Edit-AS once. In a Mallorcan bar. It was in a village up in the mountains - we caught a bus there from Alcudia to escape the tourism. We did - 'old men outside bars looking at us suspiciously' galore.



We asked for tapas in a bar where the Spanish were clearly partaking of their extended lunch before siesta. It looked delicious - huge circular slices of sausage in a garlicky, herby, rich red tomato sauce. It was only after our conversation stopped due to the inordinate amount of time it was taking us to chew the sausage that the penny began to sink. The old newspaper clippings adorning the walls and the knowledge that the bullring was around the corner made us pause for reflection. "Yes", the bartender confirmed with a smirk, "the fight was yesterday, nothing goes to waste".
