The RFL can confirm that the Co-operative Rugby League Championship One clubs have agreed their position on promotion at the end of the 2012 season. />
Following last year’s strategic review into the Co-operative Championships, all 10 Championship One clubs today voted in favour of having the top four promoted at the end of the 2012 Co-operative Championship One regular season.
This will see the top four teams being promoted into the Championship to form an expanded 14 team division in 2013 meaning that there will be no relegation from the competition in 2012
To determine the Champions of the Co-operative Championship One season, there will be a top six play-off at the end of the campaign with the winners of the Grand Final deemed as champions. />
Four new clubs will enter Championship One in 2013. Northampton were announced as one of the four last month and the other three teams will be announced once the due diligence checks are completed. />
“It is an exciting time for Rugby League at Co-operative Championships level and the whole sport is looking forward to the new season ahead,” said RFL Chief Operating Officer Ralph Rimmer. />
“With the positive structural changes to the season from 2013, every club will be working extremely hard to play their part in the most significant change to Rugby League since the switch to summer in 1996.
“Championship One is expected to be very competitive with every team in the division in with a chance of promotion.” |

I can remember someone having a go at me at one of those games where we we got shown up at home, because I said they were rubbish. />

Ultimatly the franchise system is flawed, it weakens the clubs outside SL, and weakens the clubs in SL that it purports to protect, RL in this country is dominated by 4/5 clubs, it needs the rest of SL to catch up with them to emulate the NFL/NRL, but the lack of meaningful competition means these clubs wont improve, they effectively have nothing to play for
Meanwhile the clubs outside SL are unable to attract the neccessary investement needed to improve themselves
The whole sport is obsessed with TV money, the governing body also are short sighted in ways of improving the sport outside SL, effectively giving away the Championship coverage for nothing
The governing body will never improve the finances of the Championships , only the clubs can achieve that, until they realise that, decline will continue
As for the OP, it is the fairest way, evn if it makes a mockery of the play offs, effectively making the whole Championship GF s day worthless |
